I will offer the following as a general observation. It can be embarrassing for a player and/or his family when a personal item makes its way to the secondary market and becomes publicly available. As such, it is not uncommon for a player or his family to make false claims about said item in an attempt to save face. Anyone who has handled Championship or Hall of Fame rings, for example, is likely well aware of this phenomenon.
