Just my opinion, and I'm a mid-level collector at best. Certainly no expert. So, FWIW.

It's encouraging if the jersey is in fact a 44. That rules out the possibility that someone had a different size jersey and tried to pawn it off as a 44. I was thinking someone may have taken a retail jersey, moved the tags to the neck, and disguised the size. Not the case.

This points to the other possibility ... MacGregor did not have a 44 tag at hand and used a flag tag instead. It looks like the zig-zag stitching is for the nameplate. The fold on the tag appears to be neatly stitched. Looks okay to me.

Here is a comparison of your tagging and another with what the tagging should look like. Hopefully somebody can figure it out for you.

Well, the jersey is not that big...definitely a 44 size...

I agree on the jersey looking a size 44, now to figure out why a folded XXXL tagging was folded and sewn on.

An XXXL size would be putting the jersey at a size 52-54.

It's not the norm. What concerns me more, though, are the inconsistent applique on the bottom of the crown tag and the appearance that the tag is folded under.

It would be interesting to know what's on the folded portion of the tag. Maybe it can be seen through the mesh on the back side. I'm guessing it's either a larger or smaller size number or an L/XL-type size indicator. If so, it raises two possibilities in my mind. MacGregor didn't have a 44 tag at hand and used a flag instead. Or there's deception going on.

Hard to tell if there is any "wear" or not from the pics but worst case looks like a legit Game Issued Jersey. Nice !
