    Re: November 2016 Pickups

Got this Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals AAA team) Raul Mondesi jersey. I have it photomatched to his first AAA home game on July 14, 2016. This photo also contains a second photomatch in his bat. I have that bat and it was authenticated to a MLB game on August 3, 2016 and I have it photomatched to 3 other MLB games. I also have this posted in the Royals thread as post #348 with more pics and info.

Another Big Red Machine pickup, a 1975 specific Pete Rose GU 10 bat, was really surprised by the level of deep seam marks on both sides of the barrel, tried to capture in photos.

He is the reason I love baseball so much to this day. In fact one of our last conversations was about how he made it to another Spring Training. We even discussed a couple games on the phone and those conversations are priceless to me now. He passed away a week before this season began.

Like you, I have taken some small solace in my GU collection more this year than ever in my life. It helped distract me and also think of him and how he felt about that particular player.
Thank you, all of you guys, it is really appreciated. And thank you as well to those that reached out to me directly as well...
My Dad was fascinated by this hobby and he would always ask me the latest developments when we talked. He thought it was great to have something like this that you loved, that was a distraction from the typical day to day challenges of life and that you could do well on also.
He worked very, very hard at his job and yet, always found time after a long day to play catch, shoot baskets, or throw batting practice to me because he knew I loved playing sports so much and it was important to me. I told someone the other day, the last scene in Field of Dreams where Ray gets to finally throw catch with his Dad? Well, I was lucky enough to have that, all the time, thru my childhood...

Not really a new pickup but just got it photomatched to a cool World series game. 2011 Molina game 3. Molina went 3/4 with two doubles and 4 RBI's

    Ben:

My condolences on your father's passing. May God give you strength and courage at this difficult time.

On a different subject, that is one sweet Perez bat.

Hi Ben. So sorry to hear about your dad. My mom passed last year and it was/is tough. You realize there are very few "agenda free" people out there who care deeply for you, making it so tough when they go, particularly with life's constant milestones. My wife is expecting any day now, and it is hard sharing it without mom. Oh well. Such is life. We grow through pain. It populates us, we reflect and hopefully grow in character.
Whoa!! This is more than I expected to write. Getting preachy....

    Ben
Sorry to hear about your dads passing. My wife has been extremely ill for the past 1.5 years and this hobby does sometimes create a needed distraction that keeps me going.

Raul Mondesi bat photo-matched to three at bats against Jose Fernandez on August 24, 2016. In his very first at bat against Jose he hit the first pitch he saw, a 94.8 MPH fastball, to CF Marcell Ozuna for a single. That would be his first and only hit off of Jose Fernandez and is his 16th career hit. #RIPJF16. Also posted in Royals thread (#346) with more pics and info.
