What a way to kill off a 7-game winning streak.

Two losses in a row, with today's loss 6-0 and 29 men left on base. Broke the record of 20. Not a good day for my Yankees!

Haven't read the article, but isn't it impossible to keep more than 27 left on through 9 innings. 3 bases x 9 innings = 27. Guess I should read the article!

3rod13, that is not correct. They had 12 team LOB, that is the number you should be referring to. The record of 20 is probably team LOB.

It may have been 12 LOB but given the Yankee payroll it added up to the equivalent of 28 men.

It has been a hard season for me to watch so far as a Reds fan, but these 2 past games against the mighty Yankees has been SWEET!

I will give credit watching on mlbtv I like the Yankee's announcers, Cone and the other guys are pretty good. Tell you a few things about the Reds that the Reds announcers don't even know or say.

Re: Yankees Left 28 Men On Base (top Of The 9) - Record Is 20 In A 9-inning Game

                    Hi 3Arod13,

I think you are confusing the more common Team Left On Base, which is the number of men left on at the end of an inning (Yanks left 12 on in this game) ... with the sum of the men left on base by EACH YANKEE.

This is where the number is 29, but this is a relatively new stat used in MLB. If the Yanks load the bases with none out, and three consecutive batters strike out, the boxscore will recall all three as leaving three men on, for a total of 9.

But of course, they can't leave more than three on as a team in any inning.

The records you are referring to (20 in a 9-inning game) refer to TEAM LOB. It means in nine innings, a team likely left two men on in seven innings (total 14) and the bases loaded twice (6 more) for the total of 20.

Of course, it is statistically possible that they left the bases loaded 6 times, and only two other men on in the other three innings (another way to reach 20).

But the Yanks left only 12 on yesterday. A lot, but by no means an unusual number.

                    Hope this helps,
                    Barry
