as huge as a Red sox fan Iam I must say it is getting quite annoying when he gets up to plate and pops up or strikes out. Put one of the young kids (Bailey or VanEvery) in his spot until he gets stuff worked out. If need be give him a couple weeks off and send him to the Paw Sox for some conditioning and what not.

He has not been the same since his wrist injury last year.

You say this in jest.....but you don't know how much it's true.

He may have some nagging injuries, but shame on Boston for not allowing him to heal from it.

Manny leaving the Red Sox effects in so many ways. I don't think you guys realize just how many at bats Ortiz sees now without seeing good pitches because Manny is not there to "pitch around".

The dude has turned the Dodgers into one of the best teams in baseball....yes, the Dodgers have good players on their own merit alone....but Manny makes them all better. He gives them all the feeling they can't lose.

All that, with mediocre to poor pitching....and the Dodgers have the best record in baseball, or darn close to it.

Ortiz is hurting seriously from Manny being gone, and I don't believe the Red Sox can win consistently or enough without him. David Ortiz's career can be summed up as "pre-pro-post Manny"....and his Manny years will always shine....just like Eric posted.

There's no getting around that fact, the proof is in the numbers.

Here's an article on mlb.com regarding Ortiz and his power outage.

I remember when Darrel Evans bat speed went, so did his career. It only takes a minute fraction and can come with age. Might be the end of the road for Ortiz...

Incredible- people are burying this guy due to a slow start after a year in which he was injured. I think he's done enough in the recent past for people to give him a little time to get things going. Lets start a thread on the golden boy David Wright- 1 hr and less extra base hits than Ortiz. Or BJ Upton 0 hr 70+ ABs...These are guys that are off the top of my head- my guess is all of these players will find their stroke and be fine when its all said and done

Here's an article on the worries regarding the WBC and the Red Sox players who played in 2009 classic. There were concerns Big Papi would be affected especially coming off an injury.

Also note Wright did play in the 2009 WBC and did injure himself too.

Everyone's entitled to get off to a slow start once and as Kellsox suggests they hopefully will get back into the groove.

Now if these guys are both under 5 homers each by June 1 we all need to wonder.
