Back in the 1990s, we brought my beagle, Mindy, to several smaller shows. The dog never caused a problem or made a mess, although there were one or two sellers who didn't like dogs and, not having the stones to say something to me, whined to the promoter about it.

I love dogs and grew up with one but I would be weary of buying
game-used memorabilia from a booth that has a dog in it, especially jerseys.
Last thing I want is dog hair on my jerseys or stuck to the pine tar on bats.
Doesn't mean you can't collect/sell memorabilia but I personally want my items
from a pet/smoke-free environment. As a buyer, the two don't mix.
Once its yours to keep, feel free to do whatever you want.

It's not like he had his dog rolling around in his merchandise. With the comment of being leary of the seller it sounds like you assume the dealer is irresponsible and lets the dog sleep with the merch and use them as chew toys. The dog was well behaved at the show. So a random hair would ruin it for you. Well, since most of us shed, we all have hair floating around our house no matter how clean you keep it. So, to take it to that end, you should be careful not to have a single hair on your jerseys if you sell them.

Using the word leary is like bunching him in with people that are trying to scam us by issuing fake COA's and scuffing up jerseys to make them look game used.

I understand the smoking issue, but really, a dog hair that you can just pick off. Unless the jersey smelled like wet dog, one hair is nothing to be leary about.

If you were at the show, the pic was just to lighten the tense air that was at the show due to the arrest.

I understand and want non damaged merch, but judging the dealer because he has his dog there is a bit much.

Re: My Favorite Picture From the 2011 National

Actually you're right about the leery.

I was just expressing my personal feelings about buying from
a "merchant" who brings his/her pets to a show. Call me judgmental but
to me that leaves a gray area in terms of "quality control." Many
people have pet allergies and that by itself may lead to lost business.
And just to be VERY CLEAR, I am not speaking about a pet-owner
who is parting with his collection on Ebay or is having a garage sale.
I am talking about a merchant who is setting up shop.

Well, since most of us shed, we all have hair floating around our house no
matter how clean you keep it. So, to take it to that end, you should be
careful not to have a single hair on your jerseys if you sell them.
Speaking from someone who sells memorabilia for a living, especially to
an extremely condition-sensitive market like Japan, you bet I do my best
to make sure there's no hair in my merchandise. You leave human, pet hair
and you leave you and your business open to judgement in regards to
quality control no matter how inaccurate it may be.

I don't expect when I buy an item from an individual collector to be
free of any human hair but I ask EVERY time, if not already noted, if
the item comes from a pet-free/smoke-free environment. If it comes
from an environment with a pet and its a jersey, its going straight to
the cleaners. I don't want to lose a customer because he has pet allergies.

I'm sure many agree hence the widely used term "comes from a pet-free/
smoke-free home" as a big selling point on Ebay.

In any case, apologies to Joel. That's a very cute dog and I'm sure
                    a very good one.

                    Take care,
                    Goh

Even if you have pets, that doesn't mean you allow them near your game used merchandise. We have had pets, but the cats haven't been allowed anywhere near my jersey display room upstairs.

I am also an owner of my now 14 year old dog. She is a Pom and sheds like crazy twice a year, which DRIVES ME NUTS! I can only fathom how that would make a non-pet owner feel.

So, all my items are either kept in cases, framed or in the boxes they came in, until I can put them in a case or frame. My GU jerseys are kept in a zipped up suit bag (I have a couple of them) until one day I can afford to frame them.

I love our dog like family, but I certainly do not want her hair on my items, either. She also does not go into the closet in the spare room where my items are stored.
