Speaking as a father of two and a grandfather (so far) of four, thanks! It's hard for most folks to imagine the vast future consequences of parenthood. Most parents will be still be affecting (and effecting) the lives of many thousands of future descendants over the centuries to come.
Of course, there's a paradox here: if you double the number of ancestors for each generation for each of us going back over the centuries, by the time of Jesus we would each have more ancestors living then, than there were people on earth at that time! The trick is that countless lines of descent would have have crossed ( eg very distant unknown cousins, etc.) so that the actual number of ancestors would be much smaller. But we still might be descended from a good chunk of the human population living at any time, if we go back enough centuries. We probably all have both kings and slaves among our ancestors.
