The ASG ceased to be an exhibition game when Bug Selig decided that the outcome should determine home field advantage for the following year's World Series. At that point, the fan's "input" should have largely gone away and the selection of teams left to the professionals. Period.

In theory, that shouldn't work. The "+X~" thing should be filtered somewhat easily. That's somewhat the fault of whomever MLB contracted to do the voting. Of greater concern is the fact that this ASG determines who gets home field in the WS. Ned Yost already lost last year's WS with this motley crew. Is he going to create an uphill battle for the 2015 AL representative, as well?

Now, that asks another question, so to speak: Is Yost going to play favourites with his players and leave them in, so Miggy, Donaldson and Altuve can throw sunflower seed hulls at each other in the dugout?

Maybe the Cardinals hacked into the mlb all star voting database and pumped up the votes for the Royal players.

When they say "60-65 million" votes, does that mean each player counts as a vote? Otherwise, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

As I write this KC Royals players lead the All Star voting at all 8 positions. My memory tells me that the Reds voted in all or most of their line up in the 50's. Obviously KC has a good team as they took the Giants to the 7th game in the World Series. But I don't think anyone would seriously contest that everyone of their position players are the best in the American League. Makes you wonder what is going on? Teams like the Yankees and Red Sox in the past have had vote totals for some players that were higher than they may have deserved. But I don't recall them sweeping the field as this is going now. There seems to be something a little funny about this you, wouldn't expect KC to have that kind of draw. There will always be a controversy about selections. Should it be the player having the best year up to the All Star Game or a proven all star from past years. (I've seen a times where some player went into the All Star Game hitting .340 and wound up the season .270) And should a fading star be rewarded for past great years. Cal Ripken was the starter his last year and hit a home run. Many of us remember that fondly. It wouldn't have happened if he had been voted in strictly on his performance that season.
