Simmons could hit, but without Bench's power and not in his class as a catcher. If you want a hard working catcher that hits singles and has no power then Thurman is your man. I remember the 76 World Series when Thurman got a hit everytime up but they were always singles. I remember Bench hitting HRs about every time up, tying a WS record with Rbis, and nobody running on him including mickey the quick rivers because it was a lost cause.
