Just wondering if you have a photomatch of the helmet or something, because i have looked through all of the 2007 pictures of mike karney of the saints website and getty images and cant find this helmet. the revolution he wears in 2006 and 2007 has only one part of the chinstrap u can clip on and the other is attached. and is that paint on the left side of the helmet all around the fleur de lis?

gremillion - imo this helmet compares extremely well to what karney wore in 2007 due in part to the twin drill holes per side at the high-point chinstrap attachment area - the drill holes also match perfectly in terms of location. karney had the high-point arms of his chinstrap "permanently" mounted to his helmet with screws instead of chinstrap snaps which can be seen in 2007 photos - what can also be seen in these photos are the extra/vacant/twin drill holes next to the screw-mounted attachment points i've mentioned.

karney's original chinstrap is not included with this lot and chinstrap snaps have been mounted where the screw-mounts once were. as i mentioned in another thread, unfortunately missing chinstraps are quite common when it comes to game helmets offered at auction due to various (and perfectly understandable) reasons.

as far as the discoloration around the side decals is concerned, i believe it's decal adhesive that's been smeared due to someone trying to wipe it off without using the proper cleaning agents - helmet decal adhesive often becomes exposed due to decal shifting, decal shrinkage, seepage due to heat, etc. but, fwiw, it can be easily removed with 409 or the like.

it's apparent to me that this helmet was never prepped for another game (cleaned, decals/striping replaced, etc.) - the shell condition is in the same state as it was when it left the field. further, the dark transfer/hit marks seem consistent with the fact that the saints closed out their 2007 season with the bears. here are some images from 2007 that show the twin drill holes in karney's helmet:

      getty - 77563852 5th game

btw the reason i didn't simply post the images here instead of referencing the image numbers is because after looking into the matter further today we've determined that posting such images may indeed constitute a copyright infringement. it's an entirely different climate today compared to a couple of years ago in terms of liberally borrowing from image services because image services now have well-developed tools at their disposal (such as picscout) which makes it much easier for them to aggressively protect what they believe to be their property. so in addition to the game dates we provided with each of our photomatched lots, going forward we will also provide image reference numbers with these lots as well which can also be used to conduct image service searches. but i'm hopeful that the conversations i had today with a couple of the larger image services will lead to guua being able to use their image inventory for photomatching purposes, but at a price that will not be cost prohibitive.
