Good to hear all the publicity from this site generated a sale for you. Since both you (as the seller) and a buyer were comfortable enough with this jersey to complete a transaction, it shouldn't be a problem for you to address the question that more than one forum member has posed.

Did the Phillies wear regular season game jerseys during the Spring of 1981? If not, is it possible that this Luzinski jersey is team issued rather than game worn (since Greg was purchased by the White Sox in March of 1981)? As Chris Cavalier previously stated, if you are going to offer items for sale on this site, you need to be prepared to answer questions.

Attached is a newspaper article/photo from spring training 1981 (March 10th, is the date of publication here) showing Larry Bowa in game action. The picture is a little tough to make out, but I believe it shows the "P" and the pinstripes on Larry Bowa's jersey. It's not Luzinski, but I hope this helps to shed light on what the Phillies might have worn, at least some of the time, in spring training.

I have no proof Luzinski wore the jersey in spring training of 1981 -- I was 17 years old at the time - but I was told by 3 long-time Phillies collectors that the team did wear game stories that spring for selected games. Do I have pictures of Luzinski wearing the jersey? No. Is is real? In my opinion? Yes. In the opinion of the buyer, who examined the jersey? Yes. In the opinion of the previous owner and 2 others? Yes.

I suppose it's possible the photo is a stock image, although the caption states that it is from spring training action at the time. Regardless, here's another newspaper photo from '81 spring training showing a Phillies player wearing pinstripes.

A second newspaper clipping (in .jpg form) from the Spring of '81, courtesy of forum member Guy Hankel. This one is from a game played on 4/6/81, which is about a week after Luzinski was sold to the Chicago White Sox. Regardless, this provides evidence that pinstripe jerseys were worn by the Phillies during Spring Training of 1981. Nice detective work!

Thanks to Guy for posting these photos-it's greatly appreciated and once again proves how valuable the Game Used Forum is. As noted in my prior posts, it was the general belief by many collectors (including myself) that the Phillies wore their maroon pre-games during spring training, however, this proves otherwise.
