14 Game Used Pujols Rookie Jerseys

I have recently suffered some health issues. Likewise, a small tornado hit the my house (on Labor Day) causing some serious damage. Both situations have led me to do something I promised myself I wouldn't do, sell my Pujols Inventory.

Over the past 6 years, I have researched, sought down leads, etc., to create the collection I now have....

14 Albert Pujols 2001 Rookie Jerseys (game worn). 9 home, 5 road. Most are set 1, some are set 2. Three have the flag tag on rear neck. The best part, I also have the first #5 jersey Pujols ever wore as a Cardinal (Albert wore all size 46 in spring training of 2001 with another number, this is the first jersey home #5, it is a set 1, size 46. Albert wore it for 2 weeks until more 48's came in. It was shelved by the clubhouse manager and later pulled out after 9/11 to have a flag installed). Nine of the 14 jerseys have Mears letters. The other 5 jerseys came from respectable collectors like Jeff Sullivan, Brad Horne, and Rob Steinmetz (prior to 2003) and thus I felt no need to get letters.

I am looking for an outright sell. I am asking 72,800. It may seem a little high, but having almost every Pujols rookie jersey that is still available and the time to collect all of these has it costs. This adjusted price reflects the current market value of a Pujols game worn rookie ($5200 x 14). The BP jersey is obviously not worth 5200, but the first jersey Albert wore on the field at home is worth substantially more than that.

My family business is a Corporate Sponsor of the St. Louis Cardinals and I have on-field privileges, dug-out visits, club booth next to General Manager, and ceremonial first-pitch opportunities. I am honest and fair. My late grandfather first started collecting in the late 50's and into the 60's. Our family's jerseys have been requested to be exhibited at both HOF in Cooperstown and the Cardinals HOF in St. Louis. Albert Pujols is the greatest player I have ever seen (in the modern era). . .plus he is not linked to any steroid scandals and is a great ambassador and Christian off the field. He is currently in the Dominican Republic helping supply one of his orphanages.

If you are interested, you can email me, fax me, or call me back. If not, I can look elsewhere in the hobby such as an auction house. I have been offered some significant offers from such companies as Grey Flannel etc, but I am hoping that a true collector would be interested. I am hoping someone will keep this collection together. Thus, at this time, I am not going to split the jerseys up, all 14 stay together. The new owner can determine which course of action they take. I will only provide pictures to interested serious buyers. This is an impressive collection.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Merry Christmas and God bless you.

      Rudy,

If you're really interested in that jersey then you should contact that seller through Ebay....his name is David, since he is currently banned from this website. He does have a strong autograph connections with Willie; I believe his autographs to be authentic. In reference to the wash tag, I have seen 3 altered Pujols jerseys in the last 6 years, where Albert cut, pulled, or inked something on a piece of equipment. Some Cardinal players are known to cut the entire rear tails off the back of their jerseys sometimes when they take their jerseys home and go make hospital visits at St. Louis Children's Hospital....so that the jersey can be tucked into a pair of blue jeans. I cannot comment further on that particular ebay item, it belongs to David.

I would prefer to discuss the jerseys that I am selling, which are an outstanding collection and destined to be a priceless package someday soon. Some of the jerseys in my collection have been with me since late 2001!

I am also selling a 93 McGwire Home, 99 McGwire Home GFC, and a 98 Sosa Home GFC if interested.

      Thanks and Merry Christmas ,

      Les

No clue about Cardinals jerseys, but what are the odds he actually went through 14 jerseys as a rookie? That seems unbelievably high.

Re: 14 Game Used Pujols Rookie Jerseys

              Does seem crazy, however....

Albert had been invited to Spring Training, and most didn't expect him to make the club. He wore Size 46 through spring training and into April after signing with the club. In May, he switched to size 48 jersey which fit him more appropiately and allowed undershirts to be worn.

Likewise, with rumors of McGwires retirement and the game worn jersey market booming, in late May 2001, many of the home jerseys of the star Cardinal players became MIA (McGwire, Edmonds, Pujols, etc.) The clubhouse manager had to re-order another round of set one home jerseys to replace these jerseys. After the MIA jersey incident, it became almost impossible to acquire Cardinal jerseys because management tightened up the strings.

Thus, with an abundance of set 1 jerseys, not many set 2 jerseys were ordered. Previous to this modern era of Superstars, players only wore maybe 2 jerseys for the first half of the season (Set 1), and maybe 2 jerseys for the second half of the season (Set 2). Yet today, if you ever get a chance to visit the locker room of a MLB team (I have seen numerous), you will see players not with 1 jersey in their locker, but sometimes 4-10. It depends on the player and the team. Today's jersey definitately don't get the wear that they did in the early 90's and before.

Believe me, I wish players like Albert only wore 2-4 jerseys a year, it would have made my collecting alot easier. However, that is the nature of the hobby and makes it unique and fun. Good question, hope I shed some light on it for you.
