I have a Tony Gwynn 1999 game used uncracked blonde Louisville Slugger model #B267 available for sale that has been autographed by Tony in bold blue sharpie. The item comes with a PSA/DNA LOA and a Global Authentication Inc. (GAI) cert for the autograph. The bat also has Tony's signaure tape job on the handle. It displayes terrific game use with lots of ball seam marks and rack marks around the barrel.
The interesting thing about this bat is that it has red ballmarks on it that are reflective of the All-Star Game balls that were used that year in the All-Star Game. This is even mentioned in the LOA from PSA/DNA as well. However, I can't say for certain that this was actually used in the All-Star Game. I got the bat signed by Tony back on March 7, 2007 at CJ's Sportcards and Memorabilia here in San Diego, and asked him specifically about the All-Star Game ballmarks. He said that it was unquestionably an authentic gamer, but he couldn't recall for certain if he had in fact used it in the All-Star Game. He said that he did recall taking some of his regular game bats with him to the game, but he couldn't remember if it was actually used in the game itself. So, I guess it's anyone's guess - although the evidence points towards the possibility.
Also, another interesting item to note is that the large MLB logo on the bat is colored in red and blue, which I think adds some more character to the piece. At the signing Tony said that the coloring was pure boredom! He said that he sometimes colored in the logo on some of his bats with red and blue sharpie when he had downtime in the clubhouse. So, it was great to see Tony get a good chuckle out of that!
Asking price for this piece is $1250 shipped, and the price is pretty firm. I might consider a trade for some other items (Astros game used items), but I'd really like to get a cash sale on this one. This is a truly unique Tony Gwynn piece, and finding uncracked bats of his is pretty rare. I have definitely seen more cracked bats of his out in the market place than uncracked ones! Please e-mail me at: loumud@yahoo.com with any interest, or if you'd like to see more photos of the bat.
