Just obtained 3 batting helmets from a Cubs Wives Charity Auction in Arizona. For those who question date codes in helmets, here are three prime examples of batting helmets that have sat in the Cubs inventory for (in one case) over 15 years! These were taken directly out of the equipment room by Tom "Otis" Hellman last week and given to the Cubs Wives. My LOA accompanies each helmet. Lefty #5 helmet, last used by Tony Womack in 2003. ABC helmet, size 7 1/4. Early date code wheel inside. Good evidence of game use, #5 on the back, MLB sticker covering up earlier MLB/ABC logo. Likely it was also used by others during Spring Training. $100.
Lefty #7 helmet, last used by Todd Walker in the Spring of 2005. ABC helmet, size 7. December 1992 date code. MLB and #7 stickers on the back, evidence of 1994 125th Anniversary sticker residue. Probably used by many players, as this helmet shows a ton of use. $125.
Righty #1 helmet, last used by Jose Macias in the Spring of 2005. ABC helmet, size 6 7/8. April 1997 date code. MLB and #1 stickers on the back. Helmet shows good use. Likely it was also used by others during Spring Training. $100.
