Re: Jim Thome/Frank Thomas Game Used Items
What was Jim like back in HS? Quite the athlete? Nice guy? One of my favorite stories is when Thome, as a kid, ran onto Wrigley Field in pursuit of his favorite player's autograph (and mine) - Dave Kingman...

Didn't know Jim in high school . . . he was three years behind me. I do remember he was better known for his accomplishments on the basketball court throughout high school. After high school he went to a local community college (Illinois Central College) before signing with the Indians. I'm curious what number he was drafted. His family is incredible. Very friendly and down to Earth. I remember his late mother attending a lot of the card shows in Peoria during the early-mid 1990's. She was always looking for his cards, which most of the dealers would give them to her for free. I have a photo of Jim signing my rookie game used jersey at a Children's Hospital charity event in the mid-1990's. He would return to Peoria every winter to help that cause. The Kingman story . . . that's a classic! Thanks. SteveComment

Steve:
I have never heard a poor word spoken on Thome, and enjoyed you story about Jim's mom. Having lost mine at age 51, I am sorry to hear of his loss. It seems a natural progression for me to follow Thome as I have been a Kingman collector since childhood, still am, followed that up with McGwire stuff, and for now would like to add some Thome stuff - but your lot is probably getting out of hand for me ($$). Would love a nice gamer bat possibly. I am hoping he has some killer years with the Sox. Should you get something along that line I can help out in a partial trade with one of Kingman's HR baseballs from his Cub years...
