Bill Burbach's 1969 NY Yankee Home Flannel - Worn on Mickey Mantle Day

    Hello everyone:

For sale is the prized posession in my collection. I'm selling Bill Burbach's 1969 New York Yankees Home flannel. What makes this jersey especially unique is that it was worn on Mickey Mantle day by Mr. Burbach as the winning pitcher on the day Mickey had his #7 retired. Bill was also the New York Yankees FIRST EVER amateur draft pick when he was taken 19th overall in the 1965 Draft. This is also his rookie jersey as he made his first appearance on April 11, 1969. He started 24 games that year and went 6 and 8 with an ERA of 3.65. He retired after the 1971 season.

The jersey (to the best of my knowledge) has had both the numbers on the back and the NY logo on the chest replaced. Bill originally wore #50 but the jersey now bears #60. His name "Burbach" is chain stitched in the collar, and there is no writing anywhere on the jersey as sometimes happens when sent to the minors. The centennial patch on the sleeve is also a replacement. The original "Spalding" tag and "46" size tag, along with the "Set 1 1969" flag tag are present in the tail along with a chain-stitched "69" for the year.

In my opinion, none of the alterations significantly detract from the overall historical impact a jersey like this has. To say it is rare is an understatement. How many home flannels come up for sale, especially ones with this much history behind them?

    Hi Everyone,

The response has not been as great as I was hoping. To make things easier, I have uploaded the photos to my Photobucket page for everyone to check out. http://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e338/bat_master/

For price, I'm looking for $2500 or best offer. I would also consider a comparable trade for a (some) game used bat(s). Since I've never sold an item of this magnitude before I'm not sure if this price is in the ballpark or if it is completely out of line. For those in the know, please email me at t_byington@yahoo.com and let me know if I'm way off in my pricing.

If you are even mildly interested in this jersey, please email me and make an offer. I really don't want to end up listing this jersey on ebay where the chances of it ending up in the collection of someone that just wouldn't appreciate it the way a true Yankee fan would.

        Hi everyone,

The auction for this jersey is still up, but ends in about four and a half hours. If anyone has even moderate interest, please either email me or bid. I lowered the price to $1500 with a BIN of $2,250.

        Thanks

I am curious about this jersey more for the sentiment value then to actually buy it. I am not questioning your asking price as far as to insult you. I am just asking out of curiousity from what I have experienced and learned.

I do believe the $1,500 starting bid may be a bit high for these reasons:
Ill start with the obvious first.

          1) The alterations do play a huge part in value of a jersey bcuz it was not kept original - also you yourself mentioned that the patch is a replacement - which takes away bcuz its not even replaced with the original patch.

          2) Bill Burbach to the best of my knowledge ( I could be wrong ) is a no name common player, he was not a star or a semi star.

          3) As far as comparison Steiner sports had on there show some time ago a gentleman who brought in about 7 jerseys from the 50's one of them I beleive was a Rizzuto another was a Berra, all the jerseys original numbers were taken off at some point in the past and then original numbers were put back on the jerseys - due to the alterations the Berra and Rizzuto jersey was appraised at $1000 each and the common players for less.

So I dont know what you spent on it or if it has any sentiment value to you, but for sure I dont think your going to find that dollar amount your looking for, or at least not on ebay, you might do better with sending it to an auction house.

I am just making an observation to try to help, I am not trying to insult you.
