    Description (revised)

Modest Reserve. Offered is a Philadelphia Phillies 1987 Darren Daulton Game Used Jersey Signed by Daulton. “Dutch” Daulton (he was nicknamed “Dutch” as a rookie by the veterans because he looked like the character on the Dutch Boy Paint cans) was the catcher on the 1993 NL Champion Phils who lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. Always a clutch hitter, he led the NL in RBI’s in 1992 with 109. He was the undisputed leader of “Macho Row”, the players such as Lenny Dykstra, John Kruk and Dave Hollins who made up the core of that never say die 1993 team. He later went on to win a WS championship with the Florida Marlins in 1997. Displays strong use. This is a 1987 Set 1 Jersey with “Daulton” on the tag. The numbers and logo appear to be reinforced but otherwise all original embroidery and 100% correct markings. Nice signature in black sharpie on bottom of jersey. Hopefully, the listed photos tell you the whole story. I was the equipment manager for my college Basketball team years ago and I can't tell you how many hundreds of jerseys I have seen (and cleaned and washed) dating back to the 1940's. This jersey looks great. Think this is a gem? You be the judge. This is a must for any Phillies fan so when you see the opening bid and jump past the cheap reserve this Jersey should be yours. Would be great for display. Ask yourself when you last saw a genuine Philadelphia Phillies 1987 Darren Daulton Game Used Jersey available in this condition at this price and bid accordingly. Should you have any questions, please write at least 24 hours prior to the end of the auction so that I may have the opportunity to reply before you place a bid. Negative feedback is posted for non-payment so please do not bid unless you intend to purchase the item. I give Feedback when I receive it. FROM EBAY TO THE FORUM-HELLO DARREN DAULTON

    October 26 2005, 9:28 AM
    Forum Readers-
Note that the winning bidder of the RECENT Daulton jersey on Ebay is BEGNYA. Note the email address of the Forum reader-same name.

FYI-the jersey in question was discussed on the Forum recently. In summary, it is a good shirt, however, sent to the minor leagues. Note how the P and 10 are sewn onto the jersey. They have a thick stitch around the exterior, almost like an embroidery. This was done by one of the Phillies minor league teams, in order to get as much use as possible from them. The original players names were removed. As such, I would bet the name on back is not original.

When I made my bulk purchase of Phillies jerseys, I had a few road blue 1987 and 1988's that had this type of thick stitiching. Whoever did the sewing did a nice job, however, it does look a bit odd in person.

    FYI

By the way Howard, the jersey has been authenticated since you
showed such an incredible amount of concern and has been sold!

INTEGRITY? WHAT ARE WE MISSING, HERE?

    Tom-
Please read your initial post on this jersey. Clearly, you did not get this at the Phillies auction, rather, a month earlier on Ebay.

Regardless of the shirt being "authenticated" (authenticty was never questioned), this still leaves one to ask how you could incorrectly state you obtained this from the Phillies, when you purchased it one month prior on Ebay? Do you honestly believe the Forum readers have this short of memory?

What's even more disturbing is the fact that you bring additional focus to this thread and your business practices.

    A for effort, however!

Forum readers-referencing the above, here is the Ebay post and you can clearly see that the shirt in question was not obtained at the Phillies auction.

Howard, I responded privately to you. You never acknowledged my email. Thanks!
With my reputation on Ebay, I wonder why my items are in question. The Daulton jersey
originally came from the Phillies from the person I bought it from. The only thing that I did wrong was not mention Ebay to avoid issues like this. Less said the better. I was never trying to get over on anyone. Now with that said, I'd like to know what that has to do with my Dolphin items? Let's put an end to this right now gentlemen. Thank you.

DAULTON JERSEY AND SELLER IN QUESTION

    November 17 2005, 11:14 AM
    Tom-
As of this posting, I have never received a private email from you, or for that matter, have any interest in communicating privately with you on this issue. The facts are clear:

You purchased the Daulton on Ebay, tried to resell it on the Forum with a creative story that it was purchased at the Phillies auction, and were exposed. There are two major flaws with your story:
    1. The Phillies ALWAYS provide a receipt with any purchase from their auction. Where is a shred of proof this came from their auction?
    2. This jersey has the "embroidered" styled P and numbers (se previous posts about this). This was the usual norm in the minor leagues for the road blue 1987 and 1988 jerseys when they were re-used. This was done in order to get as much use as possible. Likewise, the names were removed from the back. In this case, either the name is restored or the nameplate was reattached. It is a bit hard to believe that the Phillies would include this jersey in their ALCS auction.

In regard to reputation, your prior history on Ebay has absolutely no bearing on this issue.

Darren Daulton Game Used Blue Phillies Jersey

Before this post was edited, did anyone else get a chance to read it?

I did, and I am confused. I don't understand why Howard is the one being crucified

I didn't even think the original post was all that offensive to the seller. Howard said the jersey was authentic, but had just been sent down to the minors. Am I correct in thinking that the only area of concern for anyone was the fact that the jersey was bought off ebay, and not obtained the way stated (Phillies ALS Auction)? That point wasn't even brought up by Howard, from what I can tell. Yet, he appears to be the center of attack.

It was just confusing to me.

Re: Darren Daulton Game Used Blue Phillies Jersey

        Ahuff-
I saw the post before it was removed, and for the life of me, had no idea where the author was going with it.

As you noted, I confirmed the Daulton jersey was legit, however, was sent to the minors (the original Ebay seller even noted that the #'s were "reinforced", a practice used by the Phillies to get additional use from their jerseys in the minors). Furthermore, I have attended all of the Phillies charity/ALS auctions, and this jersey was never offered at one of these events. It would be a cold day in hell when the Phillies would auction or sell a recycled jersey at such an event. Likewise, I made the largest purchase EVER of Phillies jerseys and pants directly from the Phillies (600 jerseys, 2,000 pairs of pants) during the late 1980's and early 1990's. I am well versed and know extensive details on knit Phillies jerseys, especially those from 1987 including this Daulton.

Bottom line-Tom/Begnya came to the Forum, offered a recently purchased Daulton jersey from Eaby to us, and was not truthful in his details about the jersey, and likewise, included information about the jersey being obtained from the Phillies ALS auction with absolutely no proof. I simply added facts after his post, in order to present the shirt correctly to any possible buyer.
