    Re: Pujols Family Foundation

I recall the post on this forum that let folks here know that the PFF was selling the gloves. Seems Rob read that post, contacted PFF, and then bought the gloves. Nothing extraordinary or wrong. The policies of the PFF as to how many items they sell to one buyer is hardly a question that should be raised in a manner as to impugn the integrity of Rob Steinmetz. Or to impugn the integrity of PFF by saying they don't treat buyers equally.

I would like to chime in on this! I for one believe one of the key factors in our economy is a "who you know." This is why everyone doesn't get IPO opportunities when stocks become public. You either have to have an "in" with the company, they have to know that you have cash to spend, or you have to be part of a group of investors advertising for the risk/opportunity. Either way, you have an in.

Same holds true in Sports Memorabilia. I have dealt with Rob on many occasions and have had excellent transactions. He has multiple great sources for items! A few weeks ago I received an e-mail from Rob offering Pujols batting gloves and hats. I thought the price was reasonable compared to what had previously been advertised on the PFF website. I was excited and thought I would get a couple of pairs even though I am more of a bat and jersey guy. When I read more I realized the items came with PFF certs. My initial thought was WOW! . . . that is much less than the $2000 offered months ago by PFF. I immediately checked out the PFF website and noticed they had no gloves, but figured I would call Todd and see what they had or would be getting (I had never spoken with Todd before). When I talked with Todd, he said they sold out on the first batch in minutes and he had more, but was waiting on their web guy to get the inventory on the site. Knowing this was a charity (and nothing against Rob), I offered the PFF to pay what Rob was charging as I would rather donate the money to charity instead of Rob (No offense Rob, just how I do things). Todd said he couldn't sell them off the website as there were others waiting. I thought this was fair!

I assumed Rob sent the e-mail to me and not to a mass offering. Assuming this, I posted here on the forum that the PFF was offering these items much less than previously offered ($2000+). I figured I would not be "lucky" enough to monitor the site, and that others might want to know of the great deal to be had. Rob was offended to see my post, but I honestly did not realize he sent that e-mail to many people. I felt bad for posting the reduced price information so soon after Rob sent the e-mail, but again I thought he sent it just to me as I did not see any signs of a distribution list or many e-mail addresses, just mine. Again, I apologized to Rob but figure he has taken me off his list since he said he typically does not send hsi list to "dealers." Hence, he considers me a dealer.

Anyway, I am not here to say who is right or wrong. I feel buying from a charity helps the charity raise funds for their programs.

I agree with whoever said this: Rob is one of the fairest, most honest guys out there and the first to offer a helping hand when someone needs it.
This hobby needs more people like Rob.

I said that. My name is Reid Fontaine (I forgot to add my name to my original post). I'm glad you agree with me - I'm sure many others do, too. And I agree with Howard that we should be adding our names (real names, please) to these posts.

I think it may be time to pull the plug on this thread ... I'm not sure what all of this is accomplishing. Of course, I defer to Eric's and Chris' judgment - just my opinion.

            Reid,

Aren't you a dealer yourself? I am pretty sure I get emails from you. If so, this is even more a case of sour grapes than I thought. If you had the opportunity to purchase them, would you have bought just one?

If you have an issue with Rob maybe this isn't the best place to take it.

I am a collector first and foremost. I logged on, I bought one and moved on. But I would be willing to bet had you logged on you would have bought them all, and I would have gotten an email from you, with you selling them more for what you paid.

              Bill,

Wow. In response to your post, I'm not even sure where to begin. I have absolutely no interest in the Pujols items (and I never did). I hopped on to this thread solely to lend some support to Rob. I'm sorry if my words of support for Rob upset you. For you to attack me solely because I am supporting a peer and friend in the hobby is quite curious. In fact, I must question whether your post was made in good faith or if you are simply trying to start more trouble on the forum.

Wow, its unbelievable how some members of this group act towards one another. Rob is an outstanding honest person and needs not to defend himself here. I have done business in the past with him and will continue to do business with him. This whole thread seems like a lot of sour grapes from those collectors and dealers who were not fortunate enough to be watching the PFF site when the items were made available. Myself, I do surf the web at different sites to see what becomes available. Anybody watch the Jets put their jerseys up? Anybody grab a vikings jersey when they became available? (Many still available!) I was watching PFF and did see the availability of the hats and gloves, however I dont collect Pujols. I don't think Chris Boyds' comments added anything to the conversation except for busting Rob's chops. Sour grapes by a dealer. This whole thread adds nothing to the purpose of this site and should be removed.

If you have a website and have items for sale do you become a dealer? Rob and I have chosen not to deal with each other any longer as I feel making money off a charity is imoral and I chose not to deal with people of such character. If a person of a charity recommended you to a dealer right after he bought out the inventory from the charity does that seam strange to you? If Rob wants to turn 100% profit on a charity that is his business. Why would Rob be so angry at me after pointing out to the forum that in the next few days batting gloves would be available at $450? That makes me a sour dealer? See it how you will but the guy helping others out is the bad guy and the guy turning 100% profit is the good guy. Wow!

I am very frustrated with this thread and forum right now. Yes, it is right my post might not have added any value, but I hate a falling out with people and also feel Rob's personal e-mails to me showed a character I had never seen before. I need to keep private issues off this forum as they might not truely reflect someone's complete character. I have no need or desire to cause anyone to stray from Rob or anyone else. I was simply frustrated because of a private issue. Please ignore my posts as they came from an angry side that rarely gets out. That is not who I am!

Not sure how he's making money off of a charity. The charity sold the items for the price they set. The charity made money.

What people do with those items is their choice. People buy from NFL Auctions all the time and then re-sell. I have never heard anyone been accused of making money off NFL Auctions.

It's your choice whom to deal with. I trust Rob Steinmetz more than anyone else I can think of in the hobby.

Many of the best items I have in my collection came from Rob and I thank him for that. I look forward to the next gem I can buy from you.

Please note that I have chosen to correspond with Chris Boyd via private email, yet he continues to air our differences in this public forum by paraphrasing my private emails in his public posts. I am guilty of nothing, yet this individual insists on dragging my name through the mud in a public forum.
