Not for sale, but please read...

    Hey there-

I do not want to post these for up for sale, but want to see what kind of offers it will bring up. I hat Rafael Palmeiro's jersey and batting gloves, both signed and inscribed perfectly from 6-28-05 where he hit hr number 563, tying Reggie Jackson and RBI 1813 whic passed Frank Robinson, obviously, Raffy's market won;t be the same anymore, but what he did, can't be ignored. If the price is right, I will let them go. Both have signed LOA's with pictures of the signing...

    Thanks a lot...

You are right. The prices will never be the same.My regret is not buying Reid's Palmeiro that came from Meigray. The Meigray jerseys actually had a lot of wear as they were used all season. Most of the milestone ones are worn for 1 game, usually Set 3, signed, milestone inscribed then gived to his marketing firm to sell.(Raffy gave Pete Rose a run for his money in jerseys worn!)I consider these created collectibles and for me, are not as desirable.Currently there are a few on E-Bay.My buy price for the right Palmeiro is no more than $500.00.Before the scandel they were at approximately between $1000-$1500 ! I collect Cuban born players and still need a Palmeiro. Happy Collecting.

Thanks, you are right... And that is exactly what he did. When I was at the signing, he had a box of jerseys from all the different games he had, and he did give Pete a run for his money! Thanks

        Hello D2Ray:

When did Raffy start wearing these milestone jersey's? Does anyone know what his start date was because there have been quite a few on ebay such as the one on there right now hit 2926 or something like that passing Wee Willie Keeler. Did he start these after hit 2900 or homer 500 or has he been doing this for years? I am just curious how many of these type of jersey's are out there. Sure the steroid thing really hurt and the fact that these milestone jersey's saturate the market don't help, but as you mentioned, the numbers he reached are incredible and some of those milestone jersey's are pretty unique. I know 3000 hits is not available as his marketing guys say he gave that one to his dad.

Not 100% sure when he started, but I know that not all were pulled, not every single hit jersey, or homerun, but a lot were pulled. Elite got all of these, and they have a good amount. I'm sure the one I have has some of the other hits or RBI's in it, but again, not sure when he started. And yes, Jersey from 3000 went to his dad, bg's to brother, cleats to someone else, he kind of scattered them all over to friends and relatives.

Either way, he did what he did...

I talked to someone at Elite last week and they said that all that is left in their inventory of these specific numbered jersey's is the one currently offered on Ebay and they have one additional Sam Crawford jersey I belive in which Raffy passed Crawford on the hits list. If Elite had a bunch of these they are all sold to someone, somewhere. I did ask them if Raffy did the same thing with these jersey's and equipment that he did at hitting his 500th homer in which he was changing his uniform every other inning or so. They told me he did not do that and the uniform that you own for instance would have at least been worn for the entire game in which he hit his 563 homer. Time will tell if these uniforms become a rarity that is worthy of top dollar. I suppose the fact that Raffy is the only superstar calibre player that was actually caught with a positive steroid test is the reason his merchandise has fallen off so dramatically. It will be interesting to see what will happen if the independant investigation into the steroid abuse concludes that Bonds, McGwire, Sosa and perhaps a host of others did in fact use steroids. We will see if their merchandise takes the same kind of nosedive that Raffy's has. Given enough time the market will most likely return at least above what it is currently at.

Even though these are "created collectibles", the fact remains that they are very unique. Since only 26 players ever recorded 3000 hits, and 20 have reached 500 homers, and 17 have reached 1800 RBI's, this puts Raffy in very select company. Steroids or no, you don't reach those type of numbers on steroids alone especially hits. Because so many of the members of each of these exclusive clubs are either dead, or reached these milestones years ago jersey's and memorabilia are nonexistant that are signed and dated with specific milestones written on the jersey. While it is true that most of these jersey's were worn for 1 or 2 games and Raffy has the destinction of being by far and away the most famous player to get caught with the steroid thing, the fact remains that these are very unique items because nobody else has consistently done this. If ARod, Jeter, Pujols play long enough to reach these lofty plateaus, and do the same thing with their memorabilia, the prices would be off the charts. True value is ultimately what some collector is willing to pay.
