I've decided to part with my Ralph Kiner game-used bat. It's a K86 model from the 1954 season. 1954 was Kiner's second-to-last season in the majors and his only full season with the Chicago Cubs.
On 5/11/54, H&B shipped 12 K86 bats to Kiner, the only shipment on record. They were made off Kiner's K85 model with 1/32" added to the barrel (this is one of the largest-barreled bats I've ever seen -- barely fits into a bat tube). Six of the bats were 35"/35 oz, the other six were 35"/36 oz.
This particular bat is 35" and 35.6 oz. and has been restored by master bat repair guru Fred Lowman. When I got it, the lower handle and knob were painted black. It had a handle crack, a couple knob chips and deadwood. Fred repaired the problem areas and refinished the bat.
One of the neater features of this stick of lumber are the grooves cut into the right-hand hitter's side. There are five distinct grooves, all about 7.5" long.
The Game Used Universe bat price guide values a 1950-60 Kiner bat at $1,500. I'm asking $1,000 (shipped) for this one. Please contact me at birdbats@charter.net if you're interested or have questions. Thanks!
