    Yaz, Clemens, Boggs, Ripken, etc.

I have listed a portion of my collection to raise funds for another purchase. If I do not sell them with this listing I will relist the items at .99 cent no reserve.

I have already listed the Carl Crawford jersey with no reserve. I won it at Toby Halls Charity Function and Auction along with a Jorge Cantu WBC GU BP Jersey.

    Hello Nate:

What is your story on the Ripken game used Rookie Era bat? Where did you obtain it from? Looks good overall.

    Thanks

      Brett,

Thank you! I purchased the bat about a month or so ago. Recent, but I'm willing to part with it to go after another item. Let me know if you have additional questions on this bat or any others. Since you are a Ripken collector, would you know why there are two dots on the knob?

      Happy Thanksgiving To All!

Re: Yaz, Clemens, Boggs, Ripken, etc.

I have seen various assortments of Ripken numbers and symbols on the knobs of his bats from over the years. Many of his gamers have nothing on the knob, others just an 8. I have seen them with dots around the 8 in some fashion, slash marks around the 8, sun ray marks around the 8 and circles around the 8. I really am not sure what exactly the dots mean but if all the other game used characteristics are present for Ripken then you should have a solid bat.

              Nate:

Good luck with the Ripken bat. It looks very nice. I see nobody has touched it. Good luck with ebay as I am fed up with it. I have listed numerous Ripken and other items in the past and people practically expect you to have a fire sale and give the items away. In my recent experiences, people have been bidding at less than 50% of what I can obtain price wise through and auction house. Maybe I get hit with ridiculous consignment fees through the auction house, but when people are trying to buy an early Ripken P72 bat through ebay and offering 1000 or less all I can say is the crack smokers are out in full force. I have pretty much said bye bye to ebay especially for premium items.

                Brett,

I agree 100%! It's become increasingly difficult to reach "serious buyers" using ebay. I still am unable to find buyers for my Murray, Yount, Carlton, and Bench bats even after listing some of them 2-3 times. I also picked up a minor league Big Papi autographed game bat and a 1984 Rawlings Reggie Jackson gamer that could possibly be an All Star Game bat.

I'd love to toss them all on ebay again, but I just can't keep getting hit with the fees of a reserve auction. I also can't afford to take the chance of having a totally legit Johnny Bench gamer sell for $800. It's difficult to even get people to make offers or follow through or respond to inquiries. Suffice it to say I'm pretty frustrated right now and still have bats I'd like to sell.

Not to hijack this thread, but if anyone is interested in nice game used bats of HOFers please email me. I'm looking to sell the last four (Murray, Carlton, Yount, and Bench) as well as the Ortiz and the Reggie Jackson.

                  Tim:

The past few times I listed items with best offers on ebay I had idiots sending in offers of 1 cent and stupid stuff like that. That was enough to end me listing this type of auction. Don't get me wrong, I like a good bargain the same as the next person but people just are not reasonable with offers. It is like ebay has become the dollar store of the auction community. Everyone thinks everything listed there should be 40-50% off clearance price from the market prices brought elsewhere. Good luck with your bats the pics I saw looked very, very nice.

Thanks for the kind wishes Brett. Again I know exactly what you mean. I guess it isn't all bad on ebay though. I could have traded my Yount gamer with MEARS letter for 100,000 baseball cards and sold my Gary Carter for $125!

As an aside, this could end up getting into an ethical discussion, but I think there are two cases of sales on ebay: 1. A perfectly described auction in which the seller knows exactly what they have, the value of the item, and how much it should sell for. 2. Poor description, bad or inadequate photos, low seller knowledge of the item, and absolutely no pricing knowledge.

If a person is looking for the "40-50% off clearance price" I think it is ok only on the listings that fit the description of case #2 where the seller doesn't know what they have and aren't that up to speed on writing auction descriptions and taking photos. People just shouldn't make low or crazy offers if the item is clearly described and has a known or catalogued value. If a buyer is supposed to do their homework with an item then so should a seller! All in favor? MAN LAW!!

                    Happy Holidays

I listed the rest of my bats (Ripken, Yaz, Henderson, Winfield) with a NO RESERVE auction. The Boggs bat has also sold.

Thank you Brett for the comments about the Ripken bat I'm selling. As for Ebay, I'm not bitter or tired of the people sending in low ball offers. I believe everyone on ebay is looking for a hard to find item, a deal on an item, or the convenience of shopping online. When I first started selling, low ball offers would annoy me, now I use it to my advantage. Here are a few tips on selling on ebay with a Buy it now/Best offer:

                      1. List the item for 25-100% more than you expect to get for it. The more expensive the item, the lower the percentage increase.
                      2. Understand the market value.
                      3. If you receive a low ball offer, don't reject it right away. Other buyers will see it and possibly send in a high offer not knowing what the offer is.
                      4. Have patience. Ebay has the world as it's market place....for every person that thinks it's a $1,000 item another will thinks it's a $5.00 item.

                        The crawford jersey ends tonight.

Maybe we should have a section of auction items that members have for sale on ebay? This may prevent users from giving hourly updates on when an auction is ending....
