Yankees Game Used BP & Spring Training Jerseys Starting at $99
Re: Yankees Game Used BP & Spring Training Jerseys Starting at $99
bob,
with all due respect:
- it's common knowledge that the mlb logo on the back of jerseys came into play in 2000. if you're unaware such basic issues, then proclaiming to be "the industry leader in game used memorabilia" rings as nothing more than a hollow, insipid piece of copywriting. any jersey with the mlb logo on the back collar cannot be "from either 1999 or 2000".
- perhaps i'm out of touch with prices but $100 for a BP jersey of an individual that not only wasn't on the roster, but whose identity can't even be determined hardly seems "extremely aggressive".

what would steiner normally charge at retail for a BP jersey of someone whose identity is completely unknown? $300? if you don't even know who could've possibly worn it, how do you know it's game worn? you're auctioning several such jerseys where the numbers aren't on the roster and seemingly can't be traced to anyone. i'm curious how, if you can't trace a jersey to any person, you can still feel it's "game worn"?
- what's the reason behind steiner's aversion to showing anything but the back of jerseys? as a prospective buyer, it's a hassle for me to be required to email you simply to request basic photos of the tagging. why not just show the tagging and front of the jerseys in the first place and eliminate a ton of email requests?

Sorry Rob, I wasn't aware of "rule #4"; I only posted at the prompting of several forum members who felt that others could benefit as they did.
Thanks for the heads up.
One other thing...I can easily and honestly admit a mistake was made in identifying the jerseys (1999 vs. 2000); simply an oversight--and I am more than happy to amend...and while it is hard to "aggressively" price a low end item, there are many gamers that retail for 1-2K that are priced here at less than half that...after reading a gazillion posts about Steiner pricing being "too high", it is an attempt to offer collectors a nice opportunity to make a few good value pickups--no more, no less.
Regarding whether an item can be game worn if you cannot trace the number back to a specific player, it is fair to say that especially with spring training jerseys and the number of coaches that make limited appearances in camp, that this is not always an easy task. However, there are other telltale signs that point to usage (tags, threads, etc), and I am sure that most forum members are aware of this and accept the limitations presented.
On the research front, Rudy is correct that there has to be a better attempt in identifying years, player names, etc. The same resources we talk about here on the Forum using Getty Images, etc. can only help in the future.
It is always helpful in selling online to take jersey pics of the front, back and tagging.
