1971-72 Adirondack M63 Willie Mays Game Used Bat

    Hi Everyone,

A recent opportunity is going to allow me a couple of great additions to my collection. However, this opportunity is going to come at a price.

As such, I'm offering for sale my 1971-72 Adirondack Willie Mays M63. Willie's #24 is on the knob. Length is 35" and weight is 35.5 oz.

I'm asking $9,250 shipped and insured. Please email me for additional photos. I'm looking to move this bat quickly so please make an offer if interested.

    Tim,

The bat price guide lists this bat value @ around 6K. If you are trying to move it quick, then shouldn't yopu be offering for slightly below the bat price guide as opposed to 30% higher?

    Thanks,
    Dave

      Dave,

Sure. But why start out at book or below right away and people offer even less than that? I'd rather start out at a place where I won't lose money on it and try it there.

Do you have sincere interest in the bat or were you just extremely offended by my asking price?

      Regards

Re: 1971-72 Adirondack M63 Willie Mays Game Used Bat

Just thought I would chime in here.......Tim actually bought this bat from me earlier in the year.

I don't think Tim's aksing price is unreasonable. First off - this bat has tremendous use and perfect tar markings for Mays. It is ucnracked and has perfect grain with no deadwood or pieces missing. Its a perfect early 70's Mays gamer. It would be hard to find a nicer early 70's Mays bat.

I think you need to throw the "Guide Book on Values" out the window. There are a lot of Mays bats out there - but not that many nicely hammered bats such as this. Keep in mind that the $6K you are looking at is ( 1 ) old data and ( 2 ) represents average Mays bats - not top end examples. Tim's bat is a top end example.

Here is a great - current and relevant example of values on Mays:

The Mays bat pictured above is from the same era as Tim's bat. This auction ends Thursday and if it closed today - the above mentioned bat would sell for $7,500 after the hammer. That assumes there are no other bids. I anticipate that the Mays in auction will go much higher - so I think you can throw the whole value issue out the window. Nice heavily used Mays bats are just hard to find.

I e-mailed Tim today when I saw the bat and told him that if I had the money available, I would buy it back........I am chasing some things this week in auction, or I would have bought it back already......

Just some food for thought. Good luck Tim!! Jim
