I have been searching for an Alternate purple (Not from 1998) for the longest time. With your connections with the D-backs, are you able to get your hands on one?
For whatever reason, alt. purples from 1998 are everywhere, but the same color jerseys from 1999, 2000 and 2001 are nowhere to be found.
You would think it would be the other way around??
Any help would be great.

I've handled quite a few D-Backs jerseys since 2000, but have never had a purple alternate jersey. I don't know why that is. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

It's been a while, but Hartel had some non-1998 purple jerseys. The other thing you have to watch for is there were two different 1998 purples! One was worn in Spring Training, the other during the season. I'll have to photograph my two jerseys to show the differences (it's in the # and NOB color sequence).

I did call Hartel about the 1999+ purples several months ago (I think I was given their name as a possible source from here) but there were no more at the time.
By the way -- as the photos below show the same style, which one is it -- the spring training version or the one worn during the season?

PS- The 3rd jersey (Rod Barajas) appears slightly diffrerent, and I am assuming that it is due to camera positioning/flash and not a different color twill.

I have had numerous emails about the Eric Byrnes jersey, which is sold. I have also replied to several emails about the Brandon Webb vest. Webb wears vests on pitching days, but also wears other styles on non pitching days. It is my understanding that (like the Cubs), the Diamondbacks allow their starting pitchers to choose which jersey the team will wear that day.

Here are photos of my 1998 Dale Sveum Diamondbacks purple. Has to be a ST jersey, as he did not break camp with the D-backs.
When I was pulling it from the jersey jail to photograph, I was thinking "oh, crap...this has the same color scheme on the numbers and NOB as the 1998 black jerseys do!" But, I have to ask, who in the name of all that is good and holy would fake a DALE SVEUM jersey, for crying out loud!

Looks like you were duped.

Attached are 2 photos -- the Damian Miller is a 98 style BP ("A" on front), and the Matt Mantei is a 99+ style (Diamond with Backs underneath on front). Both use the same back letters and numbers as yours. I am guessing that this person used the letters from a D-backs BP kit and then applied the letters and numbers to a blank purple alt... but the front numbers are the unusual part here. A BP jersey wouldn't contain any front numbers...
The silver lining here is that you didn't buy a star player like Gonzalez, Matt Williams, Schilling, etc. You would have been taken for much more of a ride!!

Suppose it only goes to show that despite how much we think we know about this hobby, we truly can't possibly know everything about everything. All the more worthwhile this forum is... (trust that I only said this bit given what's being talked about on 'game used discussions')

I went back and did a little more research on this jersey, and my records indicate I got it in 2002 from the old Sportswarehouse. (This is, of course, pre-Forum, and obviously, my homework was not getting done back then!)
My question, still, is who would fake a Dale Sveum jersey?!? If you're sitting on a blank purple D-backs jersey (size 48 tapered body, no less), why would you run it up in the wrong colors for Dale Sveum? And bother to do a wrong color front number for the thing! There are just too many other, more desirable players who actually were on the 1998 Diamondbacks!
My thought/hope/prayer is that this is a signing ceremony jersey. I'm going to check with a couple of people, and go from there.
Anybody got any Diamondbacks contacts who can help me with this?

as you know, the front number is missing trim. if it was simply a matter of someone using letters/numbers from another style, then where did they find this number font without trim? i can't find any dbacks numbers without trim.

as well, check out the "M" on your jersey. i can't find an "M" cut like that anywhere.

check out page 124 of henderson's guide. bill basically says that there were some odd prototypes dumped on the market. perhaps yours is a prototype/salesman's sample?

why is the sleeve trim seen in my photos different than the sleeve trim shown in the jerseys posted? the photos seem to show purple bottom/green top trim. the jerseys show black bottom/green top trim.

I'm not the least bit surprised about this shirt, once you indicated the source.

Sportswarehouse put out many questionable jerseys and likewise, restored jerseys that somehow were never referenced as "restored". I could go on for hours about the items that I personally inspected that came from Sports Warehouse that were bad. Ask any collector who's been associated wit the hobby for more than 10 years and I'm sure you'll hear the same issues as mine. I do want to note that Sports Warehouse has a new owner, Dennis, who is just super to deal with. I only hear good things and the past reputaion should not influence anyone from not purchasing an item.
