For sale:
2000 game used worn Atlanta Braves B.J. Surhoff road grey jersey. Jersey is a Russell 48 with 100 poly tag and correct 1-00 year tag, shows good game use with soft material, tag fading and slight number fraying. Has Braves 2000 all-star patch on right sleeve and small MLB logo on back above name as it should. Jersey is all original and complete.
The letters on the nameplate are block letters, not slanted, correct for a player acquired during a season (equipment man makes the nameplates himself when a trade is made because of the urgency to have a jersey ready). Surhoff was acquired from the Orioles by the Braves on July 31, 2000. I have a Surhoff card showing this nameplate plus a photo of him playing in the outfield in 2000 and wearing a home jersey with this type lettering.
(By the way, I'll even add here that I have been surprised to find a lot of 2000 game photos of Braves on the team the entire season with this type of block lettering, Glavine, Kevin Millwood, Reggie Sanders, Andruw Jones, Furcal others, so there was at least one set like this in 2000 in addition to the players acquired in trades having their plates made this way.)
Jersey appears to be a marginal photo match for several of his 2001 Braves cards (2001 cards have photos taken in 2000), based on the way the tomahawk on the chest is slightly lower on one side and based on how the 'a' in Braves is sewn closer to the edge. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the back photo of one of the cards I will include shows B.J. from behind and it shows the 'SURHOFF" block-style lettering on the nameplate. I would not call these clear photo matches because the photos on baseball cards are so small.
B.J. was popular in every city he played in and also had a whopping 2,326 hits and a career .282 batting average.
Price is $295 plus $8 for shipping and insurance. US only. No payment plans or trades. Paypal only if you add four percent to cover the fees I would lose as I am just a collector, not a dealer.
