    Taylor-
I find it interesting that both of your 2005 Twins jerseys have the same type of identification tag, including #/size/year. Are you aware if the Twins incorporated this type of tagging on all of their 2005 jerseys? The reason I am asking is because I have seen a few 2005 "game worn" jerseys on the Grey Flannel site (currently, a 2005 Joe Mauer) that only have the Majestic tag in the tail with the usual small size tag below. Likewise, I have seen a few of the Twins star players 2005 jerseys surface in various auctions that do not have this tag, either.

It seems that Twins jerseys with LOA's directly from the Twins have the tag, correct?

    Thanks.

      Howard,
Every 2005 jersey has the Identification tag, Including #/size/year... I just bought these Hunter jerseys three days ago from the pro shop and every single jersey they had there, which was about 30 jerseys from the 2005 season, had the Identification tag.. I posted a thread on this site while their auction was running about the Santana and Mauer jerseys possibly being fake because every twins jersey since 1996 has included the Identification tag.. Here is the photo on my Hunter jersey Identification for you.

As you can tell, there much different then the ones sold through the Minnesota Twins. My honest opinion is that the jerseys sold on Grey Flannel are FAKE... Actually, I'm most certain their fake. One of my close friends works for the Minnesota Twins and one of the Pro Shops and he has commented on those jerseys on Grey Flannel.. He says they are good examples of Authentic jerseys, thats it..

      Regards,
      Taylor

All the 2005 jerseys should have the tagging as discussed before. The twins pro shop has another Alternate Blue Torii Hunter for $600.

I checked out the Mauer on grey flannels website......Is it odd that grey flannel has a Joe mauer without the tagging? They also have some 2005 Atlanta Braves ( hudson, jones), 2005 Cleveland indians (hafner, sizemore), and 2005 Marlins (Cabrera) without the tagging. All the Indians , Braves and Marlins from 2005 that I have seen have the strip tagging or year tagging. Any thoughts?

            Re: GREY FLANNEL'S 2005 JERSEYS

            Henry-
I posted my question to find out why the Grey Flannel Twins jerseys are void of the identification tag that was noted by another Forum reader. I too was told by an employee at the Twins Pro Shop that EVERY 2005 jersey they have sold has the 3 digit tag, and some have a tag with only 2 digits (size and year, as these are extra jerseys, made up for a new player or call-up). I have a customer who is seeking a better name Twins 2005 jersey, however, am not comfortable purchaing the Grey Flannel Mauer based on the Twins Pro Shop's information.

As for the Braves jerseys, I have seen quite a few 2005 red alternates (Jerseys2003 on Ebay, Rob Steinmetz and a few collectors have provided informaiton) and all have the embroidered tag sewn below the Majestic tag. It is rather odd that Twins and Braves 2005 jerseys offered by Grey Flannel are void of this tagging.

            Any insight here?

As referenced above, Jerseys2003 (a frequent Eaby seller and Forum reader) has offered quite a few of the red 2005 Braves jerseys. Here is an example of a correctly tagged 2005 Braves. The Twins have a similar Majestic tag. As noted, all of the 2005 Twins and Braves I have sold have had this type of tagging. Any insight as to why those offered by Grey Flannel are void of this type of tagging?

                Gentleman,

I hear what you are saying and agree that the jerseys without the identification tagging seem a bit unusual, but regardless of anyone's personal opinion of Grey Flannel or any other firm selling the tagless jerseys, it seems like the least thing we could do is contact them and get their comments on this issue before burning them at the stake.

Every has an opinion, so here is mine and it is fact. Fact: This tagging of modern baseball jerseys is not always consistent. Strip tags, flap tags, etc. Fact: I purchased about a dozen of Braves jerseys directly from the Braves. Some came with strip tages ex. Francoeur Alt and road. and some came without the strip tags ex. Langerhans Home (with tons of use). Fact: I was in the Detroit Tigers clubhouse and saw a Chris Shelton home jersey with a "6200" tag in the tail. Some collectors say they have seen "0062" in sporting goods stores. Fact: I was in the Twins club area where I saw a Twins jersey without the strip tag. I think the team that made the changes from Russell to Majestic are the ones in question. So I would say that they may not all consistant tagging.

Conclusion is this: Do not assume something is good or not good ex. Grey Flannel Braves or Twins jersey. Know your source. Everyone is going to have an opinion and this was mine. Hope I bring some light to the tagging mystery that is not and will never be consistant.

That's a swell idea! You can contact the Owner of Grey Flannel (Richie Russek) directly at 631-288-7800. From my previous conversations with him, I have no doubt he will provide key information that will assist you in determining the legitimacy (or lack of) for the jerseys in question.

Please provide us with an update, once you have discussed this with Richie.

                    Thanks.

As for the real conversation at hand:

As we have noted in the past, not everything is absolute. Please look at this 2005 game used Braves jersey currently being sold on eBay. There is no strip tag and a COA from the Braves.

                          Howard,

Jarrod's conclusion is on the mark. Since I understand that fact all to well and am absolutely not interested in purchasing any of the questioned jerseys (and don't have an opinion one way or the other about the authenticity of the jerseys), there is no reason for me to call Grey Flannel.

                          Happy New Year!

I agree, "not everything is absolute", especially when it comes to game worn uniforms. What is absolute about this thread is the following:
                            1. 2005 Majestic manufactured Braves jerseys may have an embroidered strip tag below the Majestic tag. If there is no tag, the Braves may provide a LOA.
                            2. Respected delers Rob Steinmetz and seller JERSEYS2003 (Ebay) have offered quite a few 2005 Braves jerseys, all with the embroidered strip tag. As Joel noted, another seller on Ebay has a 2005 Braves jersey, void of the tag, but with a team LOA.
                            3. Grey Flannel is offering 2005 Braves jerseys void of the embroidered Majestic tag and not inclusive of a Braves LOA.
                            4. Twins 2005 jerseys have the same type of embroidered tag under the Majestic tag as the Braves. Per the employees at the Twins Pro Shop, other collectors/dealers and my personal experience with 2005 Twins jerseys, ALL TEAM ISSUED, GAME WORN TWINS 2005 jerseys will have the embroidered tag. 2005 jerseys purchased through the team will also have a team LOA.
                            5. Grey Flannel is offering 2005 Twins jerseys void of the embroidered Majestic tag and not inclusive of a Twins LOA.

As noted earlier, Forum reader Mark Hayne indicated he will be contacting Richie at Grey Flannel to discuss this issue. I for one am quite curious to learn the history and differences between the Braves/Twins jerseys offered by the teams and those currently offered by Grey Flannel.

Joel, would you be comfortable adding a 2005 Braves or Twins jersey to your collection if it did not have the embroidered strip tag and also did not have a team LOA? Given my 23 years of hobby experience, I for one would pass on such a jersey at any price.
