Baseball does so much of this gimicky stuff. Pink bats and all. Has anyone noticed it in other sports? Basketball or Football???? I personally think it makes the GU market watered down.

"Gimicky"??? To me, raising money for breast cancer studies and making legitimate GU items availible to the public sounds like its good for everyone.

My father passed away April 17,2001 of brain and lung cancer. My wifes mother passed away April 15,1998 of lung cancer. So if it's a gimmick.I was more than happy to bid on a Mother's day bat with 85 percent of the funds going towards cancer research.Again I am interested in these wrist bands I just need a price...

It is refreshing to see the major sports "giving back" in this fashion. It is a win-win for everyone.

I was so touched by Robert Fick of the Nationals who dedicated his bat to his mom who was fighting cancer at the time and then lost his mother a month after Mothers Day.

I believe Gary H. (Fridgefan) who is a big Nats fan won the bat w/ 85% going to charity!

Hello! All 6 wristbands are sold. The response was pretty quick, so I apologize if you didn't get one. I am working with some of my contacts to get more if there are still some floating around.

As for the gimcky side of things, I think it is wonderful that MLB has done such tributes. It not only makes for a fun event, but raises money and gives us collector's another chase. My father-in-law is recovering from having his prostate and kidney removed, and just begun radiation to knock the PSA levels down. I have two aunts and a very close friend that are breast cancer survivors. Cancer is a disease that effects everyone! Keep up the work MLB, take note NBA, NFL, NHL, and other leagues!

                  Thanks,

I think it's a great idea to do these for type of things for charity. The NHL has done pink sticks for the past two seasons. They also did wear special Katrina and Garth Brooks Kids charity patched jerseys and sold them. The jerseys were Meigray tagged. Only way to get a few non Meigray teams teams with their tagging was from these special event games. The NHLPA has also had each team auction off game used sticks from the last game of the season with the money going to the alumni association.

I didn't realize they were for cancer research. That being known now, I think it's good idea. I just thought it was the MLB's way of capitolizing on the market.
