Re: 9 Rams Game Used Jerseys Available
Regarding the Trent Green jersey, Ramsrule obtained this jersey from me. First and foremost, my apologies to him on several levels, especially if his attempt to sell the jersey put him in any uncomfortable position with other collectors.
I am both embarrassed and humbled in not catching the issue with this jersey when I originally obtained it this past year, much less before I offered it for sale on my price list. The problem is that this is a Russell manufactured jersey that was allegedly issued to Trent Green in 1999. To the best of my knowledge, the St. Louis Rams used Russell in 1995 and 1996, Wilson in 1997, Logo in 1998, and Puma in 1999 before changing their uniform style in 2000. If the jersey was "recycled" for possible use by Green in 1999, one would assume that the sleeve logos would be covered or else replaced with Puma logos (Rams used Puma in 1999) as some teams did during that era in order to avoid violating contractual obligations to their current supplier.
All looked correct on the jersey, but I failed to do the most basic of tasks in researching this jersey - I did not perform a roster check to see when Trent Green arrived in St. Louis. Knowing that Russell was pretty much out of the NFL market after the 1996 season, I should have caught the problem when the jersey was originally presented to me (regardless of the Rams suppliers during that era) if I would have simply checked the Rams' rosters or Green's career history.
There are no excuses for this, especially for someone who has been in the hobby as long as I have. I like to think that I thoroughly research any jersey that comes in my door - whether it is for my personal collection or resale - but I failed miserably on this one. The last thing that I ever want to do is release a jersey such as this one into the hobby. There is no one to blame in this instance but me, and words cannot begin to state how badly I feel.
