If you are offered a Lum jersey from his first tour of duty with the Braves and can't figure out the purpose of a left sleeve memoriam band, the band wasn't a major league addition. The Braves sent many of those jerseys to Richmond for additional use. The band was for Clint Courtney, the Richmond manager who died of a heart attack while the R-Braves were in Rochester for a series with the Red Wings.

Keep in mind on the Sakata that an all-original example likely does not exist. The Brewers wore a left sleeve memoriam band in memory of pitcher Dan Frisella, who died in the 1976-77 offseason in a dune buggy accident. Every 1977 Brewers jersey I've seen has the band removed.
