Just what I expected. No surprises for me on this one.
It went for almost the same amount as my friend's copy in last REA.
Still think the CdV type could bring something in between $2500-3000.

A good friend of mine and 19th century photographs collector sold a similar copy of this photograph about a year ago through a major auction house and it realized a little bit over $4k.
His photograph was in better shape, but the eBay copy is also nice.
The only other example I've seen FOR SALE went for over $7k about 10 yrs ago.
The CdV type could go for $3k in today's market.
Just for the record, this photograph was shot by John Adams Whipple and not by George Kendall Warren as many believe.
John A. Whipple was the official Harvard photographer in 1867.Leave a comment:

Nice Photo
This is an incredible photo. Note the bat the player in the back left is leaning on. I'm assuming it's a trophy bat, as it is extremely long even by 1960 standards.
