Game model gloves from Rawlings & Spalding?

Does anyone know whether the glove makers Rawlings and Spalding ever sold game model gloves of players like Mantle and Maris to the public in the 1960's? If they did are there any around to be purchased? Thanks for any iinformation.

If by "Game model" you mean "Player model" then yes. I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a Spalding Mantle glove, but Rawlings definitely made Mantle "player model" gloves in the 1960s -the model numbers were XPG-6, XFB-19, and DCT. Not sure about Roger Maris gloves, but they were all made by Spalding.

I need to correct myself and say "Personal Model" is what I meant by "Player model".

Not a bad Mantle glove here.

That is a beautiful glove and box. And to tie this into another thread the MMP model is a 1950s model and there's the slogan "The finest in the field" right there on the box....so I suppose that deck of cards could be late 1950s.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what that Mantle Glove sells for? I'll predict $3,200.

I'm probably not asking my question well, but I wondered whether the glove makers, and I think it was Rawlings for Mantle and Spalding for Maris, ever sold gloves to the public that were identical to those used by the professional majors league players?

The Personal Model was supposed to be the model that was used by the players themselves. While this may or may not have always been true that's the way the companies marketed the gloves.

I guess we'll never know what that Mantle glove went for now....seller ended the listing early. Someone made an offer that couldn't be refused or maybe it's headed to Mastro???
