American Football League AFL ball 1960's

Picked up an AFL ball with lots of use. I see Joe Foss was the commish from 1959-66. Anyone know much about these as I've never seen one before??? I'd appreciate any input on this...

    thanks

I don't know a lot about them. They are pretty rare. In the 1960's they didn't sell them to the public, so the ones that are around today either came from an AFL team directly, or were caught in the stands at games. I used to have a ball that the previous owner had caught at a Denver Broncos game after an extra point. I believe there are a few balls that have Al Davis as commissioner, but I think there is some question as to whether they ever saw game use.

I have a Al Davis football. Was it used in a game? Can't say but it has a lot of use. My personal feeling is, at the very least, they were probably used in practice because I can't image that a AFL team, as strapped as they were for money, would pay for a football and simply throw them away.

      Just an opinion,

The white stripes generally mean it was used in a night game.
