Re: Recent pick-ups
That's a great pin Mike!!
I just got this group. Pretty excited about it. The chest protector was near the top of my want list.

I also picked up this Jersey a couple weeks back. I really like the look of this one too.

Re: Recent pick-ups
Great stuff guys....I just picked up a tough Zeenut card of George Johnson who was the only regular team member of the Nebraska Indians to make the major leagues....also played in the Federal league and obviously the PCL.
Also picked up a very hard to find Eddie Collins Supplement
Got this very nice imperial sized cabinet of a team circa 1900
Plus a bunch of snapshots of the Reds/Orioles from the early 1960s and another bunch of snapshots of the Yankees and Twins from 1970....also a nice RPPC of a small town Nebraska team.
I haven't seen a single Lincoln Athletics or Chiefs item on ebay in at least six months now.Comment

Re: Recent pick-ups
Amazing stuff guys, I especially like that 1903 baseball jersey, very nice.
Here are some of my new pickups.
A large 1893 philadelphia based sports newpaper called the Sporting item.
It has a couple of articles about baseball, which mention delahanty, ewing, comiskey, fred pfeiffer and others. The paper consists of a few pages, but I haven't gotten up the courage to take it out of its frame, and try to open it in fear of damaging it.
A 1909 Buster Brown full page newspaper cartoon featuring a football game. Sort of a lame piece of football memoribilia, but I sort of like the various pennants being waved and it looks like one of the players is wearing a noseguard.
A painted signed trophy football between East Stroudsburg State College and Montclair college.
A 1919 Penn Cornell program featuring Bert Bell on the cover
A 1911 UPenn photo of 14 different athletes - Penns archives calls the photo Wearers of the P - and it is all of the athletes who won a letter that year. I like the gymnasium in the background. What would they do with all of those indian clubs?
And a couple of other photos that I recently posted on net54. 1 is a 1880s or 1890s McGrannville NY baseball team photo. The other is a CDV of 2 Doane College football players - possibly early 1880s?
Again, great pickups guys.

Re: Recent pick-ups
The seller advised me that the football originally came from a member of the NY Giants front office staff. As for the actual game, best I can determine, the football came from a pre-season game.
As for the football itself, the scans do not do it justice at all. It is in outstanding condition.

Re: Recent pick-ups
Thanks Mike....It's a lot harder to find stuff within my focus, but I have a lot less competition for the things I like than you do going after your Cubs pins/Tigers Pennants and Trophies.
Thanks for the info Cohiba - I wonder what was so special that they kept a ball from a preseason game? There has to be a story behind that ball and I bet you could figure out with some research.Comment

Re: Recent pick-ups
that valley junction pic is great. is there a photographers mark indicating where the team is from? i would be very curious to see if it is from valley junction west des moines. there is a very long history of baseball there. bob feller played for their team as a lad.
