Wanted to share this 1880s cabinet photo I just picked up on the bay. It is of the crew captain of the 1884 Yale Crew team. It was custom for the captain of each sports team to have a photo taken of him leaning against the famous Yale fence. I indentified this crew athlete as Henry Richmond Flanders by matching his image with those found on the Yale archives. He also played football for Yale in 1884. Walter Camp and Pudge Heffelfinger were few Yale athletes who also had the honor to lean against the fence for an individual photo. The photo strays from my normal football collecting, but I really liked the look of it.
