I just purchased a Vic Wertz Adirondack bat off Ebay for $13.50. I basically got it because my mother knew him and he is from my hometown. The bat says Personal Model under his name. I highly doubt this bat is fake but i would like to find out if it was game used. Any ideas? I know nothing about bats.

Re: Vic Wertz Bat
Hi,
I went back and checked the auction description. I believe that photos aside what really makes this a store model versus a professional model is that it has the length stamped on the knob as a "3" signifying 33 inches in length.
A professional model would have a model number such as 113A, 256B, etc. Something similar to that.
Hope that information helps.Comment

Re: Vic Wertz Bat
Vic Wertz wore the following uniform numbers throughout his career:
1947-1950 Detroit Tigers #20
1951 Detroit Tigers #5
1952 Detroit Tigers #20
1952-1953 St. Louis Browns #20
1954 Baltimore Orioles #20
1954-1958 Cleveland Indians #23
1959-1961 Boston Red Sox #6
1961 Detroit Tigers #22
1962-1963 Detroit Tigers #20
1963 Minnesota Twins #6
No #3 found. It is very likely that the #3 is engraved on the knob and represents the length of the bat as 33 inches.Comment

Re: Vic Wertz Bat
Hi --
Tim is corrct, what you want to see is a combination of 2 or 3 numbers and a (professional series) letter stamped on the knob end. A stamped 3, or no stamped numbers at all, is not characteristic of a professional model bat. Also, at he bottom of this link is a listing of the uniform numbers that are documented as having been worn by Wertz throughout his career.
Hope this helps--- if you post a pic of the knob when you receive it, you will be able to get a definitive answer.
Good Luck...
