Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help

It's amazing how a collector's issue with a seller can morph into a international political debate like it did here. Did I read the words like, viagara and defense spending here somewhere? Aren't there other forums that cover those topics? This is still the Game Used Universe Forum, right?

This thread should be locked. There is simply no room for a meaningful debate. It is simple: The United States of America rocks.

Re: Distraught about Canada Post-Need Help

First who cares where the scammer is from. There are scammers down the street from me just as there are scammers from Nigeria to Wall Street.

This is NOT the first time this has happened! About a year ago someone contacted me about a Patrick Willis gamer they were selling due to the same litany of reasons. He provided me with pictures but they were the exact same images of the Willis jersey that JO sold. Of course I was suspicious but he persisted and kept contacting me asking me to paypal him and he would mail the shirt next day air.

Needless to say he could NOT answer basic questions about the jersey like use, hits, repairs, even size. I asked for more images and he had an excuse for everything. He eventually stopped emailing me but I was told that he had emailed a # of other people trying to scam them as well.

Eventually Chris Cavalier contacted me and asked about the emails etc. in an attempt to stop this kind of behavior and possible track down the culprit. i have no idea of what transpired after I gave Chris the information.

Another lesson to every board member and collector in general-do your homework, ask questions and if it sounds too good to be true then it probably does not exist!

                  1. We have great built-in protection through Paypal and credit cards. Use it by sending Paypal as "goods" or "services." -- not as "gift." Use that protection by using your credit card. I did neither. My bad.

                  2. I did not mean to bash Canadiens or their lovely country. Seriously. But nobody should be allowed to take advantage of others the way davegameguy@yahoo.ca or julielovesbunnies@hotmail.com or whoever it was did. It hurts us all.

                  3. Thanks for this forum. Because of it, other collectors can be protected from the same or similar scams. Apologies and blessings to all.

                  Dave,

Just wondering - since the Seller had no intention of delivering, I wonder if you can sign a criminal complaint against him at your local PD? In NJ the charge would be "Theft by Deception". Of course he/she won't show-up for court and a Criminal Contempt Warrant would be issued.

With a criminal warrant on the books, the next time your Pal tries to cross the border, Customs will run their DL and the warrant will show-up and he/she will be detained by Customs. They (Customs) would contact your local PD and ask if they still want the guy and if they do, your PD will have to pick him up. Your local PD probably won't have the manpower and/or time to send two (2) guys to pick him up so the guy would be released.

The first step is to get as much info that you can, go to your local PD and see if they can help you. If they can, the guy probably won't be arrested but at least you'll be able to break his wagons if he tries to drive across the border.

                  Just a thought,

                  Jim

And if he were to get locked up in Jersey on a theft by deception charge, he can go to court and it will be downgraded to a seatbelt ticket. If they even enforce the warrant in the first place. If you're in LE in NJ, than you will certainly appreciate the humor in my post here!

I am retired LE in NJ. Can't speak for Dave but if your scenario happens, Dave would probably have a giggle out of it. My main point was/is, once a criminal contempt warrant is issued, its entered into the NCIC system. The next time Dave's pal crosses the Canadian/American border, if his info is checked, he'll come back a hit. What happens then is up to Customs. They may or may NOT notify the local jurisdiction - Dave may never see his money but at the very least Dave's pal will be detained.

                      Just a thought.

I've never had a problem selling or buying from collectors from North of the Border. My bash was of a Canadian auto insurance company, actually 2 who shafted me.

On-line, I can and will file a federal mail fraud complaint against the two people in Ontario, Canada, David Keen davegameguy@yahoo.ca and Julie Freymond of julielovesbunnies@hotmail.com. To fraudulently accept cash for merchandise and then not send it is a federal offense. File a complaint yourself and protect other collectors. It's easy and can really mess them up. Thanks for your help and support.

You can also file on the Federal level:

The more complaints against these thieves, the more likely something will be done.

That a boy !!!!!!!!!!! I can't say what the folks in Canada are feeling, perhaps they feel safe because they are in another country, but if there are criminal changes against them in the Country, perhaps the next time they cross the border, at least they will be detained.
