Rob - Bottom line ----Way to go! We all miss stuff and at the end of the day you may still have the same conclusion that it is game used, but there are certainly some question marks with regards to the jersey.

I think you meant "measured" up as you just didn't recheck the sizing so I wonder when you get this back from Chris that when you recheck the size if it is closer to a 48 then a 50 so when you get it back please check against both sizes. That missing stitching is bizarre. What is holding that size 50 flag tag in place?

Can Chris also take a picture of the MLB hologram before he ships it back to you?

    Everyone,

This jersey measures up with other size 50 Majestic jerseys in my inventory, and as such, I felt comfortable with the size being accurate. The MLB hologram and the signature/inscription also increased my confidence in the jersey. However, Chris just contacted me and informed me that the jersey does have missing stitches above the size 50 flag tag. Truth be told, this was nothing more than an oversight on my part. Given this new information, I've asked Chris to ship the jersey back to me for reexamination. In light of my error, I'd like to have the opportunity to look at the tagging more closely.

Chris asked me to mention that he is temporarily pulling the jersey from the auction - pending my second inspection. After I have looked at the jersey again, I will post in this thread. No one likes to make a mistake, and this is proof positive that no one is infallible. With that said, I'm happy to make my mistakes in a format such as this - where perceptive and informed collectors continue to protect one another, sharing valuable information in an open and transparent venue. Just as I have shared information publicly and privately with hundreds of collectors from this site, I continue to learn from each of you. Your input is appreciated.

    Best,

    Rob Steinmetz

    4. and has a hologram that doesn't appear to have been tampered with (and matches up to the MLB database).

    5. It is also important to note that this jersey is a size 50, a size not available on the retail market, further confirming that the retail-coded wash tag is an anomaly.

    6. There have been no tags removed, added or tampered with on this jersey.

    7. Regarding the lack of a paper fiber tag on the tail...jerseys ordered by a player or agent (instead of the team) would likely not have a "Property of the Reds" tag.

    I hope this helps.

Rob - The jersey is probably exactly what you say it is, BUT there are many issues with this jersey that you would have to wonder what MEARs would even rate this jersey at.

    1. On the surface, if there was a 0062 wash tag with a properly placed MLB #'d hologram you would probably get a 10 rating

    2. Legit evidence of use is very subjective unless we can photomatch it back to the game it was used in

    3. While I have no reason not to believe the sig is legit, we have seen examples of inscriptions of "GU" added after the fact. The MLB hologram I am assuming doesn't include the autograph authentication as well as the game use.

    4. The placement of the MLB hologram is very odd and MLB holograms can sometimes not adhere well to jersey material. While I think MLB holograms are as good as they get, nothing is ever 100%.

    5. The jersey is a size 50 by the tag. Has this been measured up against a size 50 Majestic sample?

    6. Are there threads missing at the bottom of the Majestic tag above the size 50 tag?

    7. As Chakes89 pointed out that the lack of a paper fiber tag on the tail was a concern to him.

I am not as good as Rudy on analyzing this stuff but does the stitching on the Majestic tag look like it was removed in the area above the size 50 tag?

Also, I didn't think you could get a size 50 Authentic 6200 tagged jersey as it would go from 48 and skip 50 going to 52.

The bottom pic is what stitching normally looks like.

Someone may want to analyze the 50 tags too.

    Thoughts?

What is concerning me is the lack of the "Property of Cincinnati Reds" tagging.

Kyle - Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the hologram placement. MLB holograms are not a 100% guarantee, but I did recently get a bat where the authenticator put the holo on the knob which is unusual too, and I found out it wasn't the regular authenticator.

What has me concerned is the 6200 tag and the placement of the hologram. These MLB holograms don't always adhere well so they can carefully be removed so it would be good to see a photo.

I had a jersey lose its hologram before.

My fear is someone took the holo off of a legit game used jersey and moved it to this jersey.

Chris, can we please get a photo of the hologram?

    Thanks.

    Hello Chris,

I believe this portion of the item description addresses your question:

...Jerseys do come up from time to time that are issued to (or ordered by) pros and game worn, but carry the retail code (this one being backed by the MLB hologram which clearly states the jersey was last worn on 8/21/07 when the Reds played the Braves). Jersey exhibits good evidence of game use, including some staining on the front of the jersey. Hamilton signed and inscribed the back number of this jersey in black (with a G.W. 2007 inscription).
