Basically, the consignor of the item stated he understood the jersey was originally sourced from Hamilton's representation. Given the issues identified with the jersey, we feel the information given to the consignor was likely misguided. Again, the information in this thread was disclosed to the consignor when the item was returned.

That's it in a nutshell. Not sure what else there is to say or make "public".

So, did anyone finally find out where the jersey was originally acquired from?

There was a very similar one on eBay yesterday with a MLB hologram BB574152.

According to the MLB database, BB574147 was used on 08/21/07, and BB574152 was used on 08/22/07.

    Are both jerseys legit?

    Hello Chris,

Just wanted to make a post here to make sure we close the loop on this thing. As posted in this thread, the jersey was sent back to Rob for re-evaluation. After re-examining the jersey, Rob posted his findings. The jersey was removed from the auction and, given the findings, it is not an item we would ever offer through GUU.

As a result, similar to items submitted to us that we reject immediately, the jersey will be returned to the consignor with the findings that were identified through the entire process. As is the intent for all items offered through GUU, although the item was removed from the auction, this thread will remain on this site for any potential future reference.

I would like to know the story behind the history too. But don't expect to find out who altered it. Without someone coming clean, there is no way to prove who altered the jersey which is a shame. I feel bad for all those who have bought bogus things in the past. Its an ugly part of the hobby.

Has anyone been able to contact the consignor of this item and ask where he/she got it from?

Rob - Due to the size tag manipulation, you would have to strongly believe that the hologram was moved from the real jersey to this "Authentic" or else you have to wonder why anyone would move size tags from a real game used jersey.

When you have a chance, please photograph the signature and inscription as I would like to analyze that to see if that is consistent with the sig and inscription on the Hamilton bat on auction.

I took a more thorough look at the stitching around the Majestic tag on the tail (more specifically, around the area where the size flag tag is affixed). Although a single line of stitching is in place above the flag tag(holding the flag tag in place), it definitely appears as if the original size tag was removed, and the size 50 tag was added. There is definite evidence of cut stitching behind the tag, where the original size flag tag was likely removed. I did not pick up on this during my initial evaluation, which I take full responsibility for.

I also pulled several size 50 and size 52 Majestic jerseys from my inventory, and measured this jersey up against them. Unless there are some unmarked and unusual customizations done to this jersey, it does not measure out to a size 50. These measurements provide further evidence that the size tag was likely altered on this jersey. Again, I did not pay close enough attention to this jersey's measurements during my initial evaluation, which I also take full responsibility for.

Attached is an image of the MLB hologram, which appears to me to be authentic and unaltered:

If you have further questions, let me know...as I currently have this jersey in my possession.

Rob - Good job on the remeasurement which confirms our earlier theories about a 6200 wash tagged jersey that it wouldn't be made to a 50.

The hologram is still interesting as it is probably real and was removed from the real jersey. Some of the edges show some slight distress. How well is the hologram sticking to the surface of that jersey?

Also, can you get a closeup of the sig and inscription.

    Thanks for the great followup!!!!

    Hello Andrew,

I agree that the jersey needs additional research and it is possible it is still legitimate. However, even if there is evidence that the jersey could be good, we would not re-list it in the current auction given it had been already been pulled as that would cause too much confusion for potential bidders.

Again, we will follow-up on this shortly.

I apologize that it is getting there later than some expected. I honestly didn't think it was an issue given the item has already been pulled.

Again, sorry for the delay as I was the one that didn't make it a priority. As mentioned above, Rob should have it by Monday and he can provide an update after having the chance to re-evaluate it. I hope that is okay with everyone.
I thought you were aware that I had someone who was going to look at the labels and hologram to do some research as well as Rob was going to re-checki.
