Re: November Pick Ups
Beavisrules--here's an SI cover of Tim Brown wearing the same ND style in 1986, fishnet mesh body and sleeves, sewn patches, numbers on sleeves, etc. No Champion patch on mine but the fishnet holes on the sleeves are so large that it could easily be removed or lost without much evidence. I'm confident enough that this is legit, it's a one-year style that has fallen through the cracks because they were 5-6 or something like that in Holtz's first season. I remember watching Pitt play ND that year and thinking that the ND jerseys looked strange. One thing about this jersey is that someone could easily reverse all of the 8s and the 1s and then voila a Tim Brown gamer with an SI cover to back it up! Thanks!Leave a comment:

Re: November Pick Ups
genius,
I saw the picture of your Notre Dame jersey. . .
just a thought - if you have a 1988 football media guide, there are a lot of pictures of players from the 1986 and 1987 season with close ups (albeit black and white) of the jersey style that you may want to check out. In particular, does your jersey have a champion patch on either of the arms at all, or evidence of one have been removed? Also, make sure you carefully compare the monogram with your jersey versus the old pictures. Just my two cents.Leave a comment:

Re: November Pick Ups
TFig,
I was going to go to $300. Had permission from the wife to use that as my birthday and Christmas gifts from her. Couldn't go any more than that because I found a Mattingly bat and it should be coming within the next week/week-and-a-half. That has wiped out my funds, but it is my Holy Grail...he was my favorite player when I was in my teens. Great find and congrats...I'm jealous.

Mike
That was the one. I got it for 276. After fees and shipping, about 330.
Didn't think that was too bad. Just out of curiosity, how much did you plan on bidding if you don't mind me asking?

TFig,
Was that Mattingly hat from the Steiner auction? I was going to bid, but I was sick on Tuesday and fell asleep. How much did you get it for? Thanks.

Re: November Pick Ups
Just got this today, a piece I needed for my Astros/Colt Jersey Collection:
1964 Houston Colt .45s Road Flannel #34 (Gordon Jones), All Original, including the very rare Texas Flag patch. Number had been resewn in sections by the team from heavy wear. Strangely enough, the Astros later retired #34 for Nolan Ryan. Cool!
