    Re: October pick-ups

Just picked up a couple of vintage Duke footaballs. The auction house and JSA calls both of them 1960 St. Louis Cardinals team signed footballs. They may be as they say but Bert Bell died in 1959 and Pete Rozelle took over in 1960.

1959 was the last year of the Chicago Cardinals and Bert Bell as Commissioner. In 1960, the Chicago Cardinals became the St. Louis Cardinals and Pete Rozelle was the new Commissioner. So, one football may be the last year of the Chicago Cardinals and the other the first year of the St. Louis Cardinals. Either way, there are terrific footballs.

The signatures are light so it's hard to pinpoint the year the footballs are actually from.

      Re: October pick-ups

Being from Hawaii originally, I have a bias for this guy. He is also a pretty good ball player. If you need some walks, he is your man. With a little bit of power to match. I managed to pickup all 3 of Kila Ka'aihue's AAA GU Jerseys from this year. I also got his hat and game pants as well.

In a separate auction, I amanged to pickup a GU Royals jersey of Kila as well. Enjoy!

This is my first game used cap and baseball pants in my collection and I want to say "thank you Ron" for these rare Benny items.

Ron has given me the opportunity to purchase some really nice GU Benny items over the last few months and he is one classy gentleman as those of you who have dealt with him already know.

        Thanks again Ron!

            Re: October pick-ups

The "pickup" has been a work in progress, and hopefully the Cubs fans out there will get a kick out of it. On September 23, 1998 a fly ball off the bat of Geoff Jenkins was lofted to left field for the last out of the Cubs/Brewers game. Well.... thats not how it ended up. Brant Brown dropped the ball, and Ron Santo had his first "heart attack" in the radio booth - screaming NOOOO for what seemed like 10 minutes.

I picked up this 1998 Brant Brown gamer a year ago, had Santo sign it two months ago (added NOOOO) and Jeff did me a huge favor and was able to get Brant to sign it (and another Brown gamer) during a recent game in Winter ball.

Santo is one-of-a-kind...maybe not the most astute color commentator, but he and Pat Hughes are entertaining whether the Cubs are up 9-0 or down 9-0.
He belongs in Cooperstown...too bad the current members are so elitist about their fraternity.
