Re: July Pick-ups
Thanks Les. I was originally going after the 2006 blue alternate that was on Hunt, but gave up on it when I saw this pop up.

Sorry, I meant World Series Games 4 & 5. Unfortunately owning a Game 6 jersey would probably be too depressing.Leave a comment:

Re: July Pick-ups
One of my grail items. Finally landed a game used Ian Kinsler jersey. Had to bail on a couple of other items I was bidding on to land this. The MLB holo states it was worn in ALCS Game 6 and both World Series Games 5 & 6. The tag inside makes it look like it was used in ALCS Game 2 as well.

2011 Marucci w/ buck and MLB holo FJ726772 (getty image of break)
2009 LS photo matched to July 7th

Always looking for Cano bats, but somehow finding Hamiltons.

Re: July Pick-ups
its the first one I have seen for sale ever. I had to spend a bunch for it and play the timing game to win it.
For those that don't know the auctions at Chase run through the last out of the 6th inning or 2 hours whichever comes first. there was one minute left in the 2 hour time limit as I wrote down my bid and a lady was in the process writing another bid when the last out was made in the 6th. She thought she had won but I politely notified the people working the desk that she wasn't done writing her bid down when the last out was made so I won the auction.
I think its a stupid way to run an auction and have seen it cause arguments in the past but whatever. I purposely overbid on the bat hoping it would scare her away and it didn't.Leave a comment:

Mike, buddy...I have to be honest. Had I been at that game, you might still have gotten the bat, but I would have been greatly tempted to make you pay a little more for it. A Miley bat is currently at the top of my Want list.Leave a comment:

Re: July Pick-ups
Sunday at the Dbacks game I picked up this Wade Miley bat from the auction.
it was broken during the July 5th game and I have photomatched it to 9 games including games 5,6,7 of his 8 game hitting streak and this was the bat he used to hit his first career double.Leave a comment:

Re: July Pick-ups
I've picked up some neat items this month, but one of my favorites is "just" an autograph, on an item I bought a little over a year ago.
Here's my original "Pickups" post, from June of 2011.
I'm always looking for Caribbean league items at a reasonable price, so I was surprised and happy to pick up this Dominican Aguilas Cebaenas team bat for a song on eBay, and it just came in the mail yesterday.
The auction photo wasn't the greatest, and the description meager, so I didn't really know what I had till I had it, and I have to say I'm really pleased. There's a small, inside-out handle crack, an interesting and intricate tape job, and tons of pine tar, as you can see. Best of all, the knob has a number, and there are initials ('EH') in the cup, written in silver paint pen.
I started out without a lot of hope of being able to i.d. who actually used this bat, but the number and the initials were promising. I went to the team's official website, and started scrolling through the photos. Almost immediately, I came to a photo of a player wearing '69'.
The captioning was hard to figure out. There were numerous "headlines" and player names above and below each photo, so it was difficult to know who this player was...so I went looking for a roster.
Elian Herrera wore '69' for the Aguilas Cebaenas during the 2010 Winter League season. He's also a minor leaguer for LA's Chattanooga team - which would explain how the bat got to Chattanooga, the location of the Seller from whom I obtained it.
So now I've doubled my Caribbean bat collection.
Saturday night, I'm waiting behind the visitor's dugout, with my bat and a black Sharpie, and Elian is the first player to come up the stairs. I called his name, and he looked around with a slightly puzzled look on his face, like he was surprised anyone was calling him. (Not up in the Bigs long enough to get blase about it, I guess.)
I passed the bat to him, and he began examining it closely. He stared at the team name for a long time, then quietly asked, "Where'd you get this bat?" "Chattanooga", I told him. "Before that, the Dominican, right?" "Yes," he said. I tossed him the pen, and he put his signature on it. "Thank you very much," I told him. "Thank you," the man said, and he sounded like he really meant it.
