This has already been done... the current penalties are much harsher than the ones you have referenced. Here they are...

    I. Penalties for steroids
    A. Test results

    — 1. First positive: 50 games
    — 2. Second positive: 100 games
    — 3. Third positive: Lifetime ban, subject to right to seek reinstatement after two years of suspension, with arbitral review of reinstatement decision.

    B. Conviction for possession
    — 1. First offense: 60-80 games
    — 2. Second offense: 120 games to 1 year
    — 3. Third offense: Lifetime ban, subject to right to seek reinstatement after two years of suspension, with arbitral review of reinstatement decision.

    C. Conviction for distribution
    — 1. First offense: 80-100 games
    — 2. Second offense: Lifetime ban, subject to right to seek reinstatement after two years of suspension, with arbitral review of reinstatement decision.

Suave: I would just like to add to this as far as MLB just ending that is impossible and to expect them to do that is asking a bit much because you could never completely control it.

I disagree. Want to end it? No problem. It's really is quite simple.

-We'll say this, MLB will hire 10 members from this forum who have zero affiliation with MLB. We'll need a salary budget, a travel budget, a expense budget (materials) and a lab testing budget.

-We'll get a big drum and put all of the teams names into the drum. Once a week, we'll pull a name of a team from the drum and drop in on that team with 20 empty urine bottles.

-Ten (10) players would be randomly tested and they would have to give urine samples. Ten samples would be sent to a lab and the other ten samples would be locked in a safe just in case someone comes up "hot".

-Let the chips fall where they may. No, it's not a big deal at all. In reality, it's really a very simplistic task. What's makes the task difficult is MLB and the players union because neither want it to happen.
