So you collect as a fan, but yes, it's also an investment. It's a time investment, a financial investment.....an emotional investment. And to be insulted by the very guy you put on a pedestal in such an unbelievably stupid manner....it's almost more than I can take.

So, I'll do what I always should have done and started out by doing. I'll buy a lot less, and only the items of the true older superstars.

This current generation ain't worth the effort in any way, shape, or form. And yes, it's guilt by association. Of course there are clean players out there. But how do you decipher who is and who isn't? Most apparently aren't.

They wipe our the value of the things we collect (or at least deminish the value....to what degree only history will tell), they wipe out our love for them, they destroy the game they play with their actions.....and leave a trail of mayhem.

But they do get their money.

No more modern day guys for me, thank you. It just isn't worth the risk.
    SS -

That's why my collecting has generally been more about the PERSON than the PLAYER... I have collected a lot of guys over the years only to finally meet them and have stories I have heard proven true - that they are jackasses, self centered, etc...

Guess what I do - I immediately PURGE all of their stuff from my collection... I do have a few pieces I need to list that have been in a box for a couple of years (Clemens, Bonds, A-Rod, Big Unit)...

I may be naive in this thought, but if a player has no character as a person (i.e. treats fans poorly - acts like he's above them, etc) I don't have them in my collection (unless they happen to be part of a card set I am completing)...

On the other hand, I am purging most of my new stuff for vintage for the same reasons you mentioned above... also, their values are established and proven...

    All the best -

    Chris
