Players using others players bats or other equipment
Re: Players using others players bats or other equipment
I've had this post in my to-do list for a while now...
Mike Cameron tied the all-time record with 4 HRs in a game. For that game, he was using an Edgar Martinez model Rawlings Big Stick. An article I read had Mike saying that Edgar and the superstars get the best cuts of wood. Attatched is a picture of the bat on display in Cooperstown. I have another picture somewhere that was taken in a pre-digital camera era... It is an Edgar model, but has 44 on the knob.

I hear that Hunter Pence was using one of Miggy Tejada's pink bats today for the Astros. He should do that kind of thing more often; he got three hits today with Miggy's bat.
Re: Players using others players bats or other equipment
Coco Crisp using Mike Lowell M-9 bats, be sure to check the number written on the knob. I recently ran into a 2008 M-9 Lowell bat with Coco's #10 on the end of knob.

When Sammy Sosa hit his 600th home run last year he was using on of Kenny Lofton's Old Hickory bats. It was surprising to me that when a player was about to hit a milestone home run that he was not using his own signature bat. The day before when he was still at 599 Sosa had used one of his own Rawlings bats. Then he used Lofton's bat the next day and hit number 600. The Rangers have an exhibit in their museum of items from the 600 home run at bat and the Old Hickory with Lofton's name on the barrel looks very odd there.
Re: Players using others players bats or other equipment
During the Braves-Reds game yesterday, I got a shot of Brayan Pena using Yunel Escobar's bat. They both came from Cuba and grew up together so it makes sense why they would share bats.
Re: Players using others players bats or other equipment
I purchased this bat from Jim Tucker. Jim and his wife have worked and boarded several Angels over the years. In 1999, Ramon Ortiz lived with the Tuckers and gave this bat to Jim. Todd Greene left the Angels after the 1998 season. A box of Todd Greene's bats were left behind and Troy Glaus (#25 in 1999) took these bats to use during batting practice in 1999.
